Well I got my Carver A-753 250wpc x 3 channel amp today. I ended up buying it used for $600. It showed up in excelent shape and sounds great. I am using AudioQuest / Audio Advisor Black Mamba II interconects, AudioQuest Type 8 speaker cables for the front 3 speakers.
The sound is a huge differance. I though my RTI A7's good before but now they are excellent. I have been listing to music in both stereo, and THX Music. I have the front towers set at full range, and my csi a4 set to 60hz.
I have been listening to some older classic music vs my normal modern hard rock. SuperTramp sounds fantastic along with ELO. I have been listening to it on the loud side to push the amp before I leave good feedback. I got goose bumps when the drums kicked in while playing "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. The VU meters just about pegged all the way to the right.
All in all I am extreemly happy with this amplifier. I am no audiophile but do appreciate a strong sounding system.
Like every one on here says. If your considering an amp just do it. It is well worth it in sound quailty improvement.

I was looking at those amps and they are hard to find and when you do find one they command a good price. Congratulations on your purchase! And remember, Bob Carver highly recommends plugging his amps directly into the wall outlet and to never use a power conditioner or god forbid a power strip. He believes they will not be able to supply the current peaks when needed.HT System

Yea i am really digging it. I have been watching this one on eBay for the last 4 months or so. Seller stared out with a $1000 buy it now. He never had it up for bid. He kept lowering it. I couldn't take it any more when it was listed for $600.
I am going to have to try a directly plugging it into the wall. My cheap tv stands bottom shelf is bowing pretty good with the A-753x and Onkyo TX-NR808 on it.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

I have had three carver amps and enjoyed them all. I mention the plugging into the wall because when I had my carvers I used a power conditioner. I did not realize till watching Bob Carver talk on several You tube videos that he mentions not using anything between the wall outlet and amp. Not sure if it makes a differance but he mentions it a couple times. If you have time, check Youtube for his gatherings and his talks. Very interesting stuff and you realize the pioneer that he is in the field. Enjoy the amp!!!!HT System

Was my first amp and I enjoyed it........loved those dancing needles ! The great thing is they are afforadble on the used market and a great way to get into seperates. Also sounded good with my RTi's. But they are getting a little long in the tooth regarding age.HT System

Yea this is my first separate amp. I really like it. I found an old press release that talked about this specific amp. Said that it was released in 1997. So it should be no older than 14 years old. I bought it planning on sending it in to have it freshened up. (Later on down the road).AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

If you want your equipment to last, please don't "peg out the meters".If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

I'm glad you're enjoying your new amp!

That being said, is there a point to this thread?

Nope just a general post / review. If you do a seach on this site for A-753x you dont get much of a return. So I though I would create one more.
Make a place for other A-753x owners to chime in.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Nice, that's a sweet piece of gear!
BTW, sorry for the dick-like response the other day. I had been up all night and wasn't thinking clearly...
So are you running surrounds, or just straight up 3-channel?2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

It's all good.
FXI A4's as surounds. I really like they way they throw the sound out in both directions. Makes them harder to pin point by ear.
Loosing the load of the front three speakers also make the rears sound better too. So the whole system has improved not just the front 3 speakers.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

That makes sense; less strain on the receiver.
I think getting a great 3 channel amp (like your carver) for the fronts and then using your receiver for the surrounds is better than getting a mediocre 5 channel amp.
