In a word WOW! Tightened bass up way beyound expectations! Punchier, faster, deeper, brought the mids right out of the cabinets. Very surprising. The B's are next! Seems to open the sound stage up quite a bit. Those of you that have hessitated as I did
don't! Cheep at twice the price. BTW. Has anyone spiked your 12's like some feedback on how long a spike u used ( have carpet) but I'm a little concerned about stability, considering making some ourriggers insread. Anyone tried that?

Yes, please do tell. I am preparing to rehab a pair of RTA12's and am considering this as well.

    Yes please and thank you.

oliverbubbles, When I dynamat'ed my 1Cs I did the spokes on the basket and the top circle the spokes connect to just below the magnets.

Plus 1 on the dynamat! And the Xover upgrades, rewiring, installing hurricane nuts and socket head cap screws on MW's and PR's, and spikes.

On the latter I used the small ones from Parts Express. They're solid brass and short.

I wanted 'em short because I, too, am concerned that the speakers are a bit top heavy. But I'm not putting them on carpet, only on wood, so they don't need to be long.

I am not set up to make the outrigers my self. Looks like a machine shop could cut some steel, slot them and drill them fairly Cheep than just need spikes. Maybe paint or a bike shop ( or paint shop) to powder coat if wanted. Doesn't look like rocket science. I'll look around my area and aee if its reasonable cost wise.

Be aware, I've learned through another thread and confirmed thru polk that the risers on rta 12's are hollow and may not support spikes without reinforcement.

That's good to know! I installed the inserts, but have not put the spikes in as I need to build extension platforms for the speakers.

    I'll watch for that!

I've desided to build new risers ( solid wood ) and replace the original ones, than I've talked to a local machine shop who can make a set of outrigers for me. 1/4" x 1" steel drilled for mounting and drilled annd taped ( 1/4 - 20 ) for the points. The cost will be aprox. 45.00 per pair plus the cost of the points. May be over kill but I think they will plenty stable and will get then up another inch or so.
