Now that I've put my RTA11TL's in use again, should I need to replace any drivers, where would I go to find them? Polk site has no information based on model search.

The original tweeters are SL-3000. The replacement is the RDO-198 that you can purchase from Polk customer service.

As stated above, the mid-woofers are the MW-6510. I believe that these are also still available through Polk.

Are you having an issue with the drivers or is this for future reference?

If you are into tinkering, these speakers respond well to the RDO-198 tweeter upgrade and upgrading cross-over components (mainly the capacitors). If you do a search on RTA11TL upgrade, you should find a few threads including mine.

    Cheers

    Stan,
Thanks for the info. Is the tweeter RDO-198 that much better than the 3000? And crossover parts, where would one find them? I would be interested in doing something like this .

I remember when I first bought the 11TL's I had to have the tweeters replaced under warranty due to the ferro-fluid leaking from the domes. Since then I've never had a problem. (Over 15 years)

After having them set up now for several days, and have watched Blu-Ray, High Def DVD's, listened to some of my CD's, and had music playback from the cable, in various modes of listening, surround all the way down to strictly stereo, I've been able to discern some inconsistencies and and some imaging that is truly remarkable depending on the media format, i.e. Blu-Ray vs CD in surround modes.

I can say that I do need to trim the speakers low frequency crossover point in the Pioneer deck a bit or get a better sub to complement the low end they generate through the passive radiators as my Hsu VTF 1 seems to wallow in the mud comparatively during thunderous audio from Blu-Ray in fact it almost sounds like they are cancelling out. Perhaps this can also be contributable to the hardwood flooring and the fact the sub is sitting on a carpet square and the speakers are not?

The SL-3000 Tri-Laminate tweeter tends to be a little in-your-face and a little harsh. Some folks like this. The RDO198 is a silk dome and has a smoother, well balanced character.

The big thing with the crossover is to get rid of the electrolytic capacitors. They are not the best for such application but ok and cheap. Replace them with film capacitors. I suggest ClarityCap or Sonicap. Also consider swapping the resistors for non-inductive (Mundorf or Mils). These parts can be purchased from various places including Parts Express, Parts Connection, Madisound, Soni Craft, and others. Stay away from the kits sold on that auction site.

Here is the thread covering my upgrade.

You might try some room treatments to clean up the bass. Placement can also be a factor. Mine sound better away from the side walls.
