Extracting stuck screw

I was tightening the screws on my sda srs 1.2tl passive radiator and the hexagonal bit actually broke off in the screw. Now I have no way to unscrew this particular screw.

What would be a safe way to remove this screw? One those those Grabit screw extractor kits?

Thanks....

Gotta say - I use screw extractors to extract screws; they work well! :-)
I've had to extract broken fittings from things far pricier than most loudspeakers (typically, broken fittings in HPLC pump heads in the lab).

Thanks, Mark - say, do you still use those old Polk towers you picked up from me about 4 or 5 years ago? I can't even remember the model number, but they are what brought me here!

They are Monitor Series Model 9As. To say I use them would be an overstatement, but they are a proud part of the collection :-)

The 9A, to my ears, is a pretty decent sounding loudspeaker - the original Model 9 had a pretty bad reputation... but that may have been largely due to the use of Motorola "orange juicer" piezoelectric tweeters.

Never heard of Monitor 9's. Any pics?

Back on topic, if the screw head is still there, with a torx/hex bit stuck in it, you could grab the head of the screw with some needlenose vise-grips or, grind a slot in it with a dremel tool to use a straight screw driver in. Pics?

Not a bad idea. I tried using an awl and a hammer to 'unstick' the torx bit that is stuck in the screw but I wasn't getting anywhere. I do have an (unused) set of those grabit things my inlaws got me a few Christmases ago - I may give it a whirl. I will take a pic as soon as I get the opportunity.

What I am mostly terrified of is accidentally punching a hole in the butyl surrounds due to a ham handed mistake :)

No problem; they were an oddity I picked up on Craigslist a few years ago and ended up giving them away to someone more deserving than myself. From what I understand one of Polk's first models?

the screw extractors I used need a couple surfaces to bite on and the bit is very hard (cant drill) so and that wont work , the previous post using a dremil with the thin abrasive disc to cut a slot is the best plan .
my guess is that if it broke off a screw bit its gonna be very difficult .
