I'm thinking of upgrading my front monitor 70 to Rtia5. .I have a subwoofer so i dont need the bass on Rtia7 or a9 . Then i've been looking at the Rtia5. That would timbre match my l/r & center . Isnt it kinda the high end of 1 series, vs the entry level of another, so which is better. Polk Ebay has a good price and free shipping for rtia5 and a8. Wonder if the money would be better spent elsewhere , like amplifier/new subwoofer. Any thoughts would be appreciated ..

I think the speaker purchase would be wise if you feel that you can tell a differnce between how the fronts and center sound. It is always a good idea to have three speakers with the same timbre up front but let you ears be the judge. I always prefer a matching set up front.

It looks like you have RTI'A3s and a CSIA6 so if you get the RTI'A5s they will timbre match what you already have. I have the 5's and 3's with the smaller CSIA4 center and I like the way they sound. I think you will be happy with those 5's enjoy.

I also think the A'5 gives me opportunity to play the low's on my DSW Sub.
The fronts can be for mid-range and let the low's played on the sub. I really like my DSW and longterm i like to buy HSU. I also like that for the short term i dont think a power amplifier is needed. Once my youngest is done with college i'll buy myself a few more toys. The current sale at Emo is tempting.

I have a setup similar to what you are considering. I have my a5's set to small with a cross over set to 80hz. It sounds great. It blew away both my dad and my uncle both of who where amateur old school 2ch audiofiles themselves (wonder where i got it from :) ).

Using my dsw 600 for the lows allows the a5's to really sing. These speakers work better in HT since there is a dedicated sub channel.
If you like pure 2ch music, thats where these speakers start to lack. I feel they dont have enough low end punch and the music sounds hollow. When i listen to music I have it set for a slightly processed sound. Where the receiver separates the lows and sends them to the sub.

I run these speakers off my vsx-32, while this is a great reciever, I noticed a warmer, clearer sound when i borrowed my dads carver TFM 15. IMO these speakers will benefit from some external amplification

I like the HT setup that has a subwoofer . The A'5 with a sub is what i'm going with. I sold my M70 on CL in 1 day for the same price i bought them for. I just missed the egg sale price on the A'5..I've also seen some good prices on polk ebay on the rti8 and rtia5.
Till Newegg has a sale price on the A'5 i'll use A'3. I've never heard the A'3 by themselves . They sound pretty good. Thanks for the replys.

Check the Polk speakers on Newegg during the weekends. It seems they always have them on sale on weekends. The A7's sell out super fast, but the A5's are usually there longer.

And now the bad news. I probable shouldn't tell you this...
Today Electronics Expo is selling new RTiA5 for $243 (through Amazon). I bought mine from them for $230 each plus $30 shipping. But just enjoy your speakers. They rock!

    ps- maybe Newegg price matches???

Price was about the same. Polk Ebay had a refurb set of A'5, free shipping. They add 6% sale tax. i deceided to buy new from newegg. I've bought a lot from the egg and always happy with the product and gets delivered on time and trackable. I'll recieve the A'5 tomorrow.

I just bought a pair of FX500i on CL. I moved the A'3s to Front Wide and FX500i as surrounds. . I read on Audyssey web page that they highly recommend front wides before surround rears or front heights. Just started listening to the new Audyssey DSW configurations.
