Amp with No remote On / Off Trigger. What do you guys do?

Well I just bought my first amp. It is a Carver A-753x 250w x 3channels.

I believe it does not have a remote on / off trigger.

What do you guys do? Leave it on all the time, Shut it off with the switch every night, Use a smart power strip that shuts outlets off when the controlling device is shut off.

I have a smart power strip and can move things around so the amp could be plugged in to an auto on/off power outlet.



I didnt know if using one of those automatic power stips would be hard on the amp.

I use the surge protected power strip to turn on and off all my electronics.

I just leave mine off, don't like plugging any amps into power conditioners or such. After all, if I'm too lazy to turn on a switch, I have bigger issues.

I do however, turn things on in advance to listening to let everything warm up.

Mine is on all the time, but Niles Audio makes a 4 channel powerstrip that has one outlet that can be setup to use a 12v trigger.

So you could use that if it helped.

I kinda cheated, I leave the amp on all the time in my other systems, I can't with the main rig with Martin Logan's, they have a signal trigger that turns the juice to the panels on, attracts dust...Bad! So the Yammie gets shut off when not in use.

I've heard, and could be wrong that you shouldn't use a power strip to switch an amp on and off because it might send a spike through, I guess that depends on the strip being used, but I'd use caution with that all the same.

Well right now I have a power / surge protector that has 4 oulets that automaticaly power on and off when you turn what ever is pluged in to the controling out let on and off. It isnt a 12v trigger system.

I have my Onkyo plugged in to the controling out let. So when I turn it on and off it causes 4 other oulets in the power stip to turn on and off. Right now I have my DSW PRO 550WI, Wii, and wirelss bridge (so my tx-nr808 is wireless) plugged in to the automatic on and off outlets. I plan on using one with this amp so it will turn on and off with my AVR.

I use my finger or toe if i am too lazy to bend down, and press the button.

I can see that happing too. That is what I was curious about. My power strip dosnt seem to do a hard shut down and start up. The sub plugged in to it doesnt thump when it turns on or off.

I cant remember wich one it is but it is a Monster Cable brand. I Know I know, but I figured it would be better than a wal mart know name brand when I bought it.
