Subs for my 2ch system

Hey everyone. I finally got settled in my apartment, so it's time to think about some subs.

I have all my gear set up in a room that measures 19'3'' wide (this is the wall with the speakers), 11'9'' deep, with 9 foot ceilings. The room opens into a kitchen, which opens into a foyer. The measurements for this area are: 19'6'' wide, 8'9'' deep, also with 9 foot ceilings.

I will probably be doing 50/50 between movies and music. I have no plans to make this a 5.2 setup. I will be using the Tyler Acoustics speakers I got from Trey, along with my Aragon 2ch pre and Adcom 5800. The Aragon has no room correction.

I have no budget yet, but I probably want it to fall in line with the rest of the gear. I am up for new or used gear (whichever gets me the best value)

Here's some pictures of the room:

Maybe a smaller sub that'll just fill in where the bookshelves drop off? That's how I'm using my 2000. Once you get the volume / xo dialed in, it may not be very obnoxious. I'm on the 3rd floor so I worried about it for a year before adding a sub.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

That is mostly what I am trying to do. I hooked up the Tylers along with the 25's subs and noticed how much I was actually missing. Though if I am buying subs, I do want them to be able to add some punch to movies as well.

I went with the Def Tech pro sub 60.....$170 w/shipping......Has 5 way binding posts, unlike the spring clips on other low-cost subs....VIP to me.

It's a Kennedy stand, actually. I got it from Sam's Club. Whalen makes a similar stand that can be found at best buy, but I noticed that it seems to be of lower quality.

On my tyler's I tried out a few subs but, the velodyne spl 1200 so far was a fantastic match. small in size but not in sound. Fast sharp natural hit to them Verry musical.

Haven't heard much good about polks psw series.

How about Rythmik F15's? How do these subs compare to similar priced subs from non internet direct companies?

Ah, well... seems as if you guys were right... second complaint from the guy downstairs already and it's only been two weeks. He literally complains whenever I turn on the system. I was told that he is an a-hole by the management, but still.

Too bad too, cause someone has a F15 on atl CL for 475!!!

Ugh, no subs for me :(

You could always be an **** back

Thats one thing I hate about my apartment. Thankfully I have a townhome so only 2 neighbors and really only one that would have a problem since we share one common wall.

But they are really nice and so far only two complaints about my bass, but they came to me directly and I was very happy to turn it down for them.

It does hurt having LSi's I cant let "breathe" but it gives me something to look forward to

Oh, don't you worry on that front. The minute I got the complaint, I turned the music up. His last complaint was about my sound machine that I use to go to sleep. He's lost all credibility with me. I told the management that next time he complains, he needs to state a reasonable decibel level that I am allowed to listen to my music at.

    I mean come on, it's 2:30 on a Sunday.

    nice looking setup !
I think using 2 smaller subs one on each side of your cabinet would look best .
something like the size of a yamaha I saw it was a bandpass only like 12" wide but it was deep and tall.

About the suggestion for deftech pro 60. I've a newer version of it, pro 600. it's terrible sub for the price. it's only 8" and bottom out very easily and it doesn't go low at all. construction is very cheap, it's very lightweight and the cabinet is thin too. it's rated at 250W, but I think that is the peak, not RMS. I have other subs around 250-300W from Infinity and they blow this deftech, I am guessing the RMS is around 100W.
For just $200, get a polk pws505 or BIC F12 and put it in the corner of your setup would be my choice.

don't get me wrong, I like Deftech stuffs (also own supercute 1). but the ProSub line is junk for the price.

sorry about your neighbor, you might consider the Aurelex gamma's, they will isolate the sound from the floor very well, but some people just have a need to complain find something annoying he does and complain back if you like. btw, the polk psw are fine subs, not one note wonders like so many others I have heard at their price point.

If your neighbor wants peace and quiet, he shouldn't have moved somewhere where all of his neighbors are only six inches away. Walk heavy, drop things and fall often. I hate stupid people like that.

well, the way they work is the sub sits on top of the gamma, it tightens up the bass and prevents transfer to the floor...so that will lessen the thump he hears...now if there is a common wall...say from the ground floor up to the next sound waves striking that wall will transfer...not much you can do about that except sound covering all over the wall and that prob. cost too much and not worth the trouble. If the guy is complaining without the sub...well he complains, I dunno you can try to reason with him if he is that type, tell him what you are doing and maybe reach an agreement as to times and all that...he does not get to have everything his way...others have rights and seems the landlord knows the guy is a pita.

the gamma from Aurelex for the subs sell for around 50-60 bucks.

    hope that helps a little.

I think you're talking about the Auralex Subdude (HD). I got a couple for my JL Audio Fathom F113's.

    Nice room!

Good to see someone really enjoy those Tylers!!

Where the heck did you find that couch - I freakin like that design.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Yep, still enjoying them. The couch is totally legit... it's the most comfortable thing I've ever sat in, nice leather too. I got it at a consignment shop... they had the whole set, but this was the only one I could fit... I believe they still have the others. I have no idea where to find something like it, I did so much shopping and found noting close.

Got ANOTHER noise complaint from the asshat below me. I told the management to come in and play with my equipment and find me a reasonable volume or give me a decibel limit.
