pure direct & sub help

okay so I got a pioneer 1120k avr I've always had direct mode which allows a sub & m70s on but started playing with it & pure direct mode sounds significantly better.but I can't use my polk 505 during music playback I can connect the sub>avr then the speakers to the sub & use the sub xO but wouldn't that eliminate some lfe signals during 5.1 & 7.1?

I *THINK* pure direct bypasses the internal DAC's on the avr, giving you a straight flow from your source. You could do it that way, but I'm sure most perfer using the LFE out. Maybe Mantis will chime in, he's our resident Pio guy.

Yeah thats the problem on direct mode I use the LFE input but pure direct shuts my LFE input when the source doesn't have a .1 signal or whatever you call it I should have just left it alone LOL

This is where it's nice to have those vintage full range speakers set to Large:)

finally figured it out I connected through the line level inputs for music & LFE input for movies & switching between sub off(music) & sub plus(movies)sounds much better using pure direct.I think the direct setting was forcing some filter on the speakers & sub that made them sound too busy

I have the Elite 74TXVI-S.I use Pure Direct from my Dac,bypassing the rcvr.....way better.I have the monitor 70's,plenty of accurate base for 2-channel analogue listening.

Why are you bothering with the sub for music...not needed, imho.

I don't have a Dac just the receiver I like the sub & the m70s together alone the m70s sound good but the sub really pulls everything together for me without the sub I hear a slight hole in the image

Direct out puts what ever the source is. Music is stereo 2.0. .0 being no subwoofer so no sound comes out. Pure does the same thing only with no processing, or running it through the equalizer. It also shuts of unnecessary electronics in the avr.
    AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
    Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
    Rear: FXI A4
    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
    Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8
    IC: AudioQuest Black Mamba II

nah direct mode creates a sub signal through the lfe input & pure direct runs just the source at least on my model. One thing thats bugging me is if the internal xO on the receiver is locked at 80hz on the LFE input there seems to be too much bass coming out of the sub when I set xO to 50hz in the menu
