I have 2 Monitor70s, MTX subwoofer, JBL center speaker and 2 rear pioneer bookshelf speakers with an Onkyo HT RC-360 receiver. I was looking at the configuration settings for the Onkyo and I noticed that it will let me select a frequency for all the speakers.

Does anyone know the ideal setting for the Monitor70s? 40 - 200hz?

I'd stick with 80 personally but some people run 60, play with a few and see what sounds best to you.

Ok thanks. What is the really difference? Bass response? The receiver says set Tower Speakers to full-band - so is that 40 or 200 hz?

And if I set the Monitor70s at 80, should the rears be at 200?

Play around with it, find what you like. I have my speakers set to small, with an 80hz crossover. What does that mean to you? Your speakers wont be wasting energy trying to play below 80hz, let the subwoofer do its job and handle the low end.

I'm still a little confused on this. Can someone explain the hz scale in English? I've looked at countless threads and documents but they're a little too technical for my liking.

I know your thinking "Oh great an another nooby!" but I thank you for your patience.

The lower the Hz the Lower the frequency you hear. Think of a bass drum as 40hz and a violin as above 200hz.

Perfect. So I'm going to set the front tower speakers and center speaker at 80hz and the rear surrounds at 150hz. I'll see how that sounds. THANKS!

Ideally, you don't want to set any speaker above 100 hz because the bass becomes easier to locate--it's more directional above that point. The lower frequency point allows the illusion that big bass is coming from all your speakers--which is good for HT!

So unless you have some satellites in the mix which cannot handle 100 hz or better yet 80 hz. Don't set the the bass crossover point too high.
