The TGP MkV is a very nice piece that is a solid 9/10 on the Agon scale. It is pristine and was recently serviced at Sunfire where it received all the updates and adjustments needed to ensure it will work well for a very long time to come. It has a very nice phono stage, and Sonic Holography, which will reward your ears wuth an acceptable version of SDA-style sound on normal speakers. It accepts HDMI video processing, but does not pass audio over HDMI.

This pre is unique in that Bob Carver himself has signed this one, one of only a very few that he has graced with his name. These typically sell in the range of $1500.00, and at that it is a great pre.

PRICE DROP!!!!

It looks like there are 2 HDMI inputs, and a 1 output. Also, there are balanced outputs for front, surround, center. True?

Does it just pass HDMI? What about upconversion of 480P? Will it accept the Oppo BDP-93 decoded audio as PCM over HDMI?

The negative is that it will not accept digital DSD from my Sony 9100ES SACD as my current Sony 7100ES will (via ilink)

I have an upgrade itch, and this might mate well with my Sunfire TGA-5400.

BlueFox I believe the HDMI passes video only and you still need to use optical or multichannel rca's for audio

    Manual is here I believe:

    Damn. Damn. Damn.

The problem with buying this is that I will need to spend another $5K buying 5 ICs for the multi-channel SACD analog out from my SACD player. On the other hand, I rarely listen to multi-channel SACD, mostly I play SACDs in the two-channel system.

    Damn. Damn. Damn.

I need to drink some more beer and think about this.

    John,

    PM sent.

I have to back out of this deal. Let me apologize to everyone for doing this, and I hope this does not cause any ill feelings.

The reason is not monetary. You have a great piece of gear for sale at a great price. Rather, the issue is I cannot use it in my system. My Oppo BD-93 decodes lossless formats into PCM and sends it over HDMI to the AVR. This unit does not do that, and I need that feature. I looked at the list of feaures you provided, and since it had so many audio formats I assumed it also did PCM over HDMI. Wrong assumption.

    From the manual.
"No TGP-5 on screen display or audio decoding inside the TGP-5 is available
from the HDMI inputs. Always connect a separate digital audio input cable when using HDMI."

I assume no audio decoding means it will not play PCM over HDMI, and lossless formats can't be sent over digital inputs.

While I could use analog cables from the Oppo to my current pre/pro that would be step backwards, in addition to being a major expense.

Unfortunately, I let last night's beer cloud my reasoning.

Let me apologize again to you, and everyone else. I hope I have not made a major Club Polk faux pas by this, as it was an honest mistake.
