Going to play with a 6 figure system

A new friend of mine invited me up to his house about 60 miles away to hear his 100K+ 2 channel system. I will get a gear list up later. I am excited as I have played with systems like this at dealers, but never in a personal home setting. Bringing a lot of cd's, Tool is a must. He likes jazz but I do not want to scare him off too much...

What kind of gear?
Keep in mind, just because it's expensive, doesn't mean it'll suit your tastes."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
more likely though it does.........
cool beans venom, looking forward to a hi-fi report.

I got to listen to a system here at a guy's place in Dallas, had around 150K in gear.
It was the weirdest thing, I bought an Oppo 83 from him and went over to pick it up, lives in a decent enough part of town, but not real high end. We pulled up, house was nothing special really, and then walked inside to what can only be described as audio heaven, a total surprise.
The guy was very nice and let us stick around for a couple hours and listen to his setup. I don't remember all the gear he had, it was the only time I can ever remember being overwhelmed by an audio setup and I was sorta in this daze the whole time. I remember he had some ginormous Dali speakers, a ridiculous vinyl collection, some crazy expensive cable from Germany or some such, and just a bunch of components that I don't remember. I do remember that the cartridge on his turntable cost several thousand dollars.
It was a very surreal experience, and hands down the best I've ever heard a system sound. I need to try and get back over there again someday. -

I found myself in the same circumstance a few years ago. The initial warning before I entered the livingroom was "Don't let on to my wife how much this stuff costs, she thinks its a few thousand dollars". :biggrin:Vinyl, the final frontier...

And this is the reason why we find high end audio on Craigslist for a couple clams or less. -
I would love to hear a 100K system like that. Too bad around here thats rare and I don't know of anyone that in WI that has a system like that, save for a few people but they don't really pop up very often unless selling on audiogon and then never want to talk about audio just sell it.
Its always different at a dealership. it seems as I am never as comfortable sitting and listening to music there even if it is my own.
The one place I did and was told I could spend the whole day was in Champaign IL at Glen Poor's. That was awesome and the most welcoming. I think it really has to do with the people hosting. If they are uptight and not letting you enjoy it takes away from the whole thing. If they are very happy to host it shows and makes the day for you.
Anyways hope you enjoyed it! Tool is awesome!!!!! -
I would be scared to hear a system like that and always be thinking my stuff sounds like crap afterwards

I am stoked because the owner strongly believes in in good room acoustics, and has put a lot of work into room treatments. I realize that no system on earth is great with all types of music, within different rooms, but I am bringing an eclectic mix of cd's and I am sure he will have some of his favorie reference disks to demo.
I am bringing "Dark Side" just in case, but isn't it a crime for an audiophile no to own a copy?

You should be. In my case I ended up spending a lot more to bring my system up to this "new" reference. Come to think about it the same thing happened when I heard someones high end turntable several years ago. I gotta limit my exposure in the future before I become homeless. :biggrin:Vinyl, the final frontier...

I heard some high-end stat speakers in a room where the ceiling tiles alone were 10 grand, they were some sort of ceramic designed to reflect as well as capture sound...anyway it was high-end big dollar as the speaks alone were 100 grand...the fellow said he sold 2-5 sets a year to people all over the planet...all the other bells and whistles were there as far as the rack and amps I dont know the total cost, didnt ask, he played vinyl and CD through it...really amazing what sound engineers can do when no cost limits are imposed on the gear...in the end we all benefit.
I can see Max wheeling his shopping cart down the road with the TT, Manley and AvanteGarde's...the ultimate pimped out cart Chuck.

Ok Guys, the equipment list is below.
I had a great meet on Sunday with Len. He invited me to his house and we hung out for about 4 hours. He has an incredible system and a fully conditioned room to handle the acoustics. I thoroughly enjoyed the system, but I do not think that it was taylored to my types of music (rock mostly) as much as his (classical, jazz). I do not think the system has a weakness per se, just that I am used to more in your face bass. The room could have played a large part, changing how I perceive the the sound of my stuff in different rooms. He was impressed of how good some of the rock recordings I had were, amazed they were not SACD.

I bet that thing sang like a birdie. I'm just trying to figure out the TV placement in pics 1-2. Unless he's mounted that just for his dogs, I'm having a hard time figuring that one out...2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

Those Dali's weren't the ones they have on display at the Star Power in Southlake, were they? Massive speakers, but absolutely stunning.

Nice room, nice set but I have to agree with jflail2 about the TV placement I am also puzzled why one would take the time and money to built a nice room, spend top $$$$$ for gear and room treathment and at the same time not taking the time do much cable management (simply dumping cables on the floor doesn't really cut it when one spends top $$$$ on such room).DARE TO SOAR:
