Just throwing this out there that if anyone knows of the Platinums for sale within the midwest area please give me a shout.

Looking for the Platinum's and not the original and would prefer to have in the states of WI, IL, MN, IA, IN, and possibly MO and KS.

Not something that I have to have right now as I just want to pick a pair up sometime in the future for a reasonable price. I already have the Silvers but just also wanted a paif of Platinums.

Of course would like these in decent condition, either no surround rot or at least been replaced and no buzzing in the ribbon (if known).

Thanks!

So you have the Silvers already huh...where are you located as I am trying to get my ears on a pair of them to decide if they might be where I want to be when I go dedicated 2 channel.....

I will be on the lookout for the Plats but I just see the Silvers all around Indy right now

I may need to sell my mk4 reluctantly. They won't be cheap. I'm almost done completely reburbishing them.
(New woofers, 1 extra new ribbon still in the box, clearview active crossover, new belden wiring, New biwire terminal posts).
    I'm located in NYC.

I'm not going to lie I would LOVE to have those. However distance would be the biggest problem. NYC is an 18 hour drive +. and I've already had to move my vacation due to work... so weekend drive probably wouldn't be possible lol.

    I'm in Plover, WI 54467.

From Indy its like a 7-8 hour drive depending on how you go. Last time I came down I went thru Champaign, IL and preferred that route as I didn't hit Chicago. Plus they have a great audio store that I like so I really like that route.

I might hit you up next year around the 4th of July. I always go to my grandparents place in Waukesha WI and it looks to be about 2.5 hours one way from there.

Might work in a day or so extra on my vacation...

I know, I saw them out there and want them just once again distance. I'm located in Central WI and with my work schedule its very hard to take time off right now due to an upcoming audit so I have to be here and it would have to be at most a weekend drive....

I'm not in a big big rush either, just something I wanted to post to let people know I was looking around. Its more to just get a pair of them to compare to the Silvers.

I have a guy 30 mins way from me that I can get the other ALIII's from so only pair I haven't heard or could get is the Platinums. (same guy I got the Thiels from and he's possibly going to sell the Carvers once his wife wants more audio gear gone, just a matter of time lol)

Plus one route takes me past Fond Du Lac with the Millionaire Mile on it so I could stop in at the two famous gas stations for some lottery luck on the way :)

I'm interested in this too. I've heard a few pairs of platinum's, and of course they sound great. But, the AL-III's have a much higher WAF....

The Plats have better bass overall but the AL-IIIs image better, IMO.

It's really not too hard to "ebonize" oak and the results are very nice looking. Any local cabinet shop should be able to do it for not much $$ unless you're set up for spraying at home already. I can not handle the shape of the "barn doors", if I got some I'd have to square them up and refinish them, or, possibly re-make the baffles altogether.

Yep, those black platts are the ****. Not the be all end all, but will definately make you re-think what a speaker should do. I always looked forward to them whenever I had a chance to get an ear on them. Go big or go home I believe is the motto.
