HT Problem...

My aunt and uncle just received a Sony package deal kinda HT thing. Not my first choice, but I at least want to getting it sounding its best.
Here's the problem: After some adjusting, and playing with the cables, I got the DVD player to work with the receiver. (they were having problems before I showed up) The problem is that the receiver isn't recognizing that it is being sent a "multi-channel" signal. It will play CDA's fine. It also plays the video portion of the DVD's fine. It even plays the audio portion of the DVD's in stereo/pro-logic. Just no DD or DTS.
Both the receiver and DVD players have DD and DTS decoding. I made sure both units were sending and receiveing from the proper in/outputs, both physically and in the set-up menus. (or else I wouldn't have gotten audio from the CD's) The
model numbers are as follows:
receiver: STR-K502
DVD: DVP-NS300
I'm stumped!

Well, first thing that I can think of is that the DVD player is decoding the DD/DTS. Make sure to disable that on the DVD player and feed the reciever through the optical/coaxial digital output.
Good luck

I agree with Steve's suggestion. I had this happen to me, but since I was far too cool to read the manual, it took me awhile to figure out.

I'll see if I can swap the decoding next time I'm over there.
