Marantz UD5005 Questions

So, my 1st generation ps3 died a while back leaving me with no SACD playback for my system (listed below). I find the new ps3 slim to be very sub-par as far as regular cd playback goes and have been on the hunt for a new player. On my quest I have found a standing deal on a Marantz UD5005 universal player (blu ray, dvd-a, EVERYTHING).
Here's where the questions start. Has anyone used this player? Do you guys think that along with an audio step up on cd playback would it also be a better blu ray player than a ps3?
Also, when talking with the saleswoman at the audio shop of choice, she mentioned that she would use a digital audio cable instead of regular interconnects (i'd likely go MIT like the rest of my system) What do you guys think on this as my DAC would either be the player itself or the marantz 7002 receiver I use. Better sound from the digital or from regular interconnects?

I dont have an answer to your question bud but my ps3 has kicked the bucket 5 times because I was always juggling it in my HT ,game room and bed room .Quite often I would just have it close to the carpet and the fan would go crazy .After my ps3 broke the fourth time it was 1 month out of warranty so I was going to scrap it but then a friend told me to just call up sony
I called up sony and they informed me that they fix outa warranty ps3's for $100 and provide the shipping costs and give you 3 months on it .A day after the 3 month it broke down and called them back up .They were really apologetic that it happened and sent me out another.I have it placed on the top shelf of the rack and so far after about 5 months I dont have a problem anymore .The fan does not even come on with this one and I am really glad I only had to pay $100 and did not have to buy the slim version because I dont like the way it looks on my rack -
Well that wasn't at all helpful considering "a while back" meant that it's been long gone for 6 months now and sold it for parts. Thanks for trying.
