Hi everybody,

I'm new to this so I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have a pair of RTi A9's for front with RTi A5 for rears and CSi A6 center and Velodyne DLS 5000 run by Yamaha HTR 6290B. I'm trying to find something that would give more power to the A9's...anyone have any sugestions on what preamps/ amps would go well with these speakers? Thanks

Well if power is what you want then it would be an amp you need. I'm not sure I your ave has pre outs but you would need them if you want to add an amp. Then it comes down to budget and how many channels you want to power 2 3 or 5 are the normal ones people will look for if trying to do ht. If you are mostly a music person a good 2 channel amp will add a lot and can run the rest off the avr.

3k will get you a very very good amp and can easily do a 5 channel and have some left over. For that budget you could even get some mono blocks but once again you need to decide how many channels and if your current avr will work.

The course of action depends on room size, your listening level preferences, budget, HD codec desires, and willingness to purchase used or refurbished.

I made the decision to buy a refurbished NAD T785 to drive a RTI A system. It has pre outs and is 4ohm capable, so if I want to upgrade in the future or drive a nice two channel in another room using another zone, those options are all open. It has been nine months and I am extremely happy with it. It is feature-lite compared to other AVRs out there, but I like that. Others do not.

There is a ton of advice if you search this forum and others. Once you get a feel for different brands (and the features they have that you want), making a decision gets easier. And go and listen to as many of them that is possible. Its all part of the fun.

Almost anything in regards to an actual amplifier. It's an easy speaker to drive @ 90db and no need to spend money like you won the lottery.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Used Sunfire TGA-5400. $3300 new, 5 channel, 800W/ch @ 4 ohm.

I use mine with 4 LSi15s, and a PSB Synchrony One center, and love it for HT, surround SACD, and two-channel. Of course, I have also upgraded the 5 ICs to MIT, and am using Mapleshade Golden Helix Plus speaker wire, and those upgrades helped the sound.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

With $3k to play, I would buy a used Parasound hca-2205A, used Rotel RMB-1095, and a new Emotiva XPA-5. Try 'em all, sell the ones you don't love. Besides, all 3 have great resale value right this minute, and the Emo has 30day return. Voila!
    LIVING ROOM:
Pioneer PDP-6070HD, Pioneer Elite SC-25, Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD,
Emotiva XPA-5, Emotiva USP-1, Polk LSI15's, Polk LSiC, Velodyne 12", Mirage Nanosat Prestige rears, MIT AVT Speaker Cables, Audioquest King Cobra Interconnects, Panamax M5300pm Surge Protection/ Power Conditioning
BEDROOM: VIZIO 32" LCD, Pioneer Elite VSX-23txh, Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD, Parasound HCA-2205A, Mirage Nanosat Prestige Speakers 5.1, Mirage S8 Sub, Monoprice cables, APC Surge Protection.

Is there a major difference between the Emotiva and other brands?

I have just been told that Parasound has a warm sound. It helps knock down the sharp edge on the higs that the RTI A line has. I just got a carver A-753x. Carver amps are supose to have a warm sound as well. My RTI A7's sound pretty sweet with the new power.
