I had to take my ex (who I still speak to and is an incredibly kind hearted girl) to the vet to have the first cat we got together put to sleep today :frown:.

We got Reyna from the ASPCA 7 years ago yesterday, and she had a good, happy life....I guess I'm soft, but I'm pretty down today.

Go home n hug your wife/kids/pets whatever. Life is simply too short...

RIP little fat Reyna. :frown:

Sorry for your loss, it sucks. It's gonna be a bad day in my house hold when our 3 year old mini schnauzer passes.

Just thinking about either of our dogs going makes me want to cry.

Had to make that awful decision for several of our pets thru the years. It rips your heart out every time. Sorry for your loss, Jason. I know how you feel.

    RIP Reyna
Exactly, our pets become an integrant part of the family and it is heartbreaking when they suffer and die. Since both my sons are men enough to care for them selves, I've been thinking about potentially having a dog (maybe lab again) adopt my home as his own territory but I have to admit I have been reluctant as I went through too many sad times seeing our best friend go since childhood and am not too sure if I can take it again. I've seen my own sons in tears loosing their friends and I admit I wouldn't be ready to see my grand sons going through the same grieving, really heartbreaking to see a loyal friend go and a killer to see the kids grieving.

RIP Reyna, you'll be remembered by your good friends jflail2!

Sorry for Reyna's sad end. We have a cat, three dogs, and a bird. They all have unique personalities and they all show affection in their own way.

It's so sad when you lose a pet - you just need to remember all the fond memories. I lost my staffordshire terrier, Prince, 4 years ago, after having him for 12 years and 10 months. I still think about him.

They don't live very long - you got to love 'em while you got 'em.

I was thinking of my cat today, he was too cool for the world but it all had to end sometime. He swam in the Atlantic ocean, loved to catch birds and jack rabbits (not cool), loved baths, VW campervan rides to the beach, walks in the park, and would always wait for me to get home at the front of the neighborhood running through it just so he could see the expression on my face to find the live shrimp he had scooped up and placed on my porch. He would sit in the street and force big dogs to cower and hug the side when walking by our house. He corralled his own hens and chicks in the yard. He's the only cat I ever knew who would come when called by his name, just like a dog.
Sly Kitty waited for me to come home, came up to me and after 17 years took his last nap in my arms. I didn't know he had even passed until I tried to get up.

Nothing takes the sadness away though. Treasure your memories and know your cat is loved forever.

    Sorry for your loss.
The best dog I ever had died back in 2001. At that time I swore I would never be dogless. I now have three with staggered ages. If one of them goes I always have one there. Still not an easy thing.

That's a good death - my staffie died the same way, with me holding him.

Know what you are going through. Had to do it twice in the last year, the second only a week ago. They both made it to 16+ before their kidneys gave out. Still tough though.

You know what the best thing about this is? You had the chance to know her, love her and have her in your lives. Cherish those moments and count yourself lucky to have been blessed with her presence.

My condolences on the loss of what I consider family.

My sincere condolences!! I and my wife love cats, i have had many and have had to see them go when their time comes...our current cat, Chloe is 17 and I have had her since she was a kitten. Thought we were going to lose her a few months ago with some apparent heart problems but she is doing fine now and in fact is yelling at me right now for more food :)

It will be a very very sad day when her time comes so I am cherishing the time I do have with her, even if its just feeding time!

    dude, sorry for your loss.

but don't forget that you did the right thing. my wife is an LVT and sees people come in day in and day out that refuse to let their animals go and try to prolong their lives for their sake and not pay attention to the suffering of the animal.

I just went through this a few months ago....it's tough, but hang in there.

and to lighten things up here's a ridiculous tattoo i got to memorialize my poor cat, Lisa. she died at 16. (she liked to hang out on sinks and drink, and did not meow, but instead always said "map map." i mean like always, as in all day, like non stop talking.)

    keep your chin up.

Louie loves to drink out of the tap and lie in the sink

He also loves our dogs, and usually behaves like one.
