Perhaps that's where my disconnect is, I haven't owned an AVR for quite sometime. I have no use for one really.

Well, I said AVR, because the average person has to look pretty hard to find a receiver that's not an AVR. My guess is you'd have little interest in a new stereo integrated receiver, let alone an old one.
Once I find what I'm looking for, all I'm gonna do is run Squeezebox through it most of the time, but I also want to be able to flip to AM once in a while for an occasional Orioles game. Otherwise, I'd just use one of the integrated amps I already have.

I got some mean stuff for the Fest..afterall, no more space shuttle launches in Florida...so we might find out how far a Pioneer el-vintage case can travel upward when its insides explode outward, kinda like the Tour da Fransay..Southern Style.

Which reminds me.....you know the last thing a southern driver says before the accident....

    hey bud, hold my beer......

I am sure that will offend someone. So I reported myself...

Uhhh... I don't know if you did or not; I didn't understand a word of it except "hold my beer" :-)

Say... this may be of interest vis-a-vis this thread:

Pioneer's not my favorite 1970s Japanese massmarket stuff - but their better offerings of the time were... umm... not insubstantial.

I personally recall my Kenwood seperates...tall cotton and sun made sweet tea...of course no tubes but at the time that rig was my bomb and we rocked it.

I understand the appeal of older stuff, just not the PRICE.
But I did get a pair of JBL L100's, so I guess I've been caught up
in the wave. Here in the Dallas area, there a lot's of places to get vintage gear.
Unlike other areas of the country, thrift shops are the last place to look.
There are so many people looking for resale (EBAY) stuff that I don't
know if I ever have seen anything other than crap in those places.
The best bet as always is garage sales. CL always has a couple of items
up. Anything priced in reason goes in an hour.

Hell, I understand the nostalgia of these rigs. I had some great pieces over the years and I'd love to revisit them to take that trip down memory lane, but I know I'd be somewhat disappointed. Because in reality I've moved on and those nostalgic pieces don't offer the performance I am accustomed to today now that I have had time to explore this hobby in the past 20+ years.

It's sort of like working your way up to owning a Ferrari today and then going back and buying that 1970's MGB you started out with years ago and trying to act like your having fun driving it the same way as you drive the current Ferrari.

Again, not knocking anyone who has love for the vintage receivers and whatnot, I personally don't see the value beyond nostalgia for me. And that's just my opinion on the matter.

I say if it floats your boat and you get enjoyment out of it, got for it and have fun.

Hey, you don't need my permission anymore than I need your permission to discuss my point of view. You don't like it, tough, use the ignore feature.

Seems like the granting of permission to me. You're much too entertaining on your pulpit to ever put on ignore, Geo.Grandville,Bozo Land etc. status!!

H9 I do have a question for you. What would you look for to power a pair of rta12s for a work out room? Let's set the price at max$300? Has to be in great shape and need no repairs?

Based on experience I'd probably opt for a nice old integrated like the Yamaha AX-700U or even better an Adcom GFA 545 and an associated pre-amp. Be perfect for a work out room and plenty of current to run the RTA12's unless you are in a gym sized room then $300 won't get it done.

When and if the time comes for me to part with them, I have an immaculate NAD 2200 power amp, and an equally immaculate NAD preamp, that I don't think I could morally price much above $300 for both.

    I'm not H9 though.

Tracy that would be highly recommended as well and even trumphs my suggestions. Good call George and if you can part with them I'm sure Tracy would be tickled pink.

seems I recall your being part of the Jersey Grand's.

I still have the Club's 1130 NAD preamp, sold the 2600 amp to Dangerboy a ways back, got it from Doro years ago after he swiped it from Russ after the 1st Texas Polkfest. A 100 buck piece that sounds like thousand...excellent TT section, tone defeat and of course the green button.

    oh, I am RT1.

I have a smaller wpc NAD that I like and had it had a bit more power I would be using it instead.

So much audio gear so little time.

I do like how this thread is going. Some good input and diverse opinions.

The old Sansui stuff gives me a bone. My first real rig was a Sansui integrated and tuner. Recently scooped up a Yamaha CR-840 for the bedroom and paired it with the TL2 Blackstones. Doesn't rattle any walls, but it does help put me to sleep.

    Nice catch, Tracy. Enjoy!

I miss that AU20000 and the TU-9900 I had. If I was in a better place then, I would still have them.
