Infinity RS-IIIa price and questions

A friend of a friends wife is making him down size his stereo, well speakers anyways. I have not seen or heard these speakers. But they are said to be in great shape and refoamed sometime within the last 10 years.

I am supposed to be able to get my hands on them next weekend and test them out on my system. Are they worth $200? And what exactly is the difference from the A to B models?

And does an Onkyo Integra M504 have the balls to drive these speakers? Also I am wondering how these compare to say Polk SDA2's.

If they're in good shape, they should be worth at least $200, if not a lot more depending on condition. If the anti-diffraction foam around the EMIT and Polydome is disintegrating, don't be alarmed....they all do.

The -IIIa and -IIIb differed slightly in cosmetics (different lettering and color on the EMIT and Polydome faceplates), different binding post cups (at one point they went to those spring-loaded wire retainers), and the crossovers subtley changed.

I think the Onkyo will be fine. If not, you may be able to do a crossover mod removing two components from the woofer circuit which will make the speakers easier to drive.

Yes and yes, I think the bass is solid, midrange a bit thick but the high end is nice and airy. There's not many Infinity loudspeakers that I like but this is an exception.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Thanks guys!

Since Ken won't sell me any SDA's, guess I'll have to settle for these.

Those are -IIIb's, with the blue lettering on the EMIT and Polydome.

A very common issue on these is dirty potentiometers. Don't be surprised if they're 'scratchy' when adjusting the tweeter and midrange levels, or even cut out altogether. They're easy to take out and clean, if need be. I removed them on mine.

I'll see soon! But from what I am being told they have no problems at all. The guy has been using them for years, original owner. All foam in tact. He doesn't want to sell them but his wife seems to be wearing the pants. So he has no choice as he put it.
