Television and cable hookup

So for the past year I've had an old Sanyo tv and the only channels I received were the ones I could get via antaena. I now have a Vizio 40" LCD and Charter cable with HD. My question is this. I have the cable box connected to the tv via component cable which is fine and I am running the sound from the tv via rca cable to the cd input of the AVR. is there any benefit to running the cable box through the avr and then to the tv and using digital optical for sound? and using my Harmony One remote will still operate the same? be gentle...

If you are running external speakers, run a cable from Cable TV box to AVR.

If you would like a run a second signal from the cable box to use the TVs speakers, for some reason, bypass the AVR altogether if you can.

Chain should be CABLE BOX -> AVR -> SPEAKERS. If you can, use optical to do so. If not, no big deal.

You should run optical from the cable box to the AVR to get Dolby Digital on channels that support it. No reason to run the video through the avr, run the component cables direct to the tv, and rca out of the cable box direct to the tv. That way you can use the AVR or just the tv speakers for sound.

You may have to change the setup on the Harmony, depends on how you have it setup.
