Need some help...sold some EV horns here on the forum. I tested them out in the cabs that they were in and they worked fine. Buyer received them and they do not work, no sound, no hiss, no nothing. We are wondering if they need the crossovers that were in the cab to function...?
Doesn't seem they should but.....

Check the VC for continuity with a DMM, VOM, or VTVM (whatever's handy)... and/or check audibly with a 1.5V flashlight battery and two clipleads. Making the circuit will yield a "click' or scratching sound if the driver's VC is intact.

I finally got around to testing both horns tonight. Sadly I believe they are toast. No noise at all with the 1.5v battery test. Meter shows OL....overload?
Can these be repaired? More importantly is it something I could repair? There doesn't seem to be all that much information about the E/V MR10A horn on the net anywhere.--Gary--

OL means the resistance is infinite; coils are open or the wire from one of the terminals to the voice coil is not making contact. An open voice coil would need to be replaced - not sure if replacement VCs are available from EV or aftermarket suppliers for that driver.

Wonder what the chances of finding another driver to fit the horns are. This sucks cause these things are in really nice, almost mint condition.--Gary--

I don't have any EV midranges (neither horns nor drivers) :-(
Those EV horns do not have standard threaded fittings (1-1/8" x 18 tpi), do they? If they did, there are plenty of good quality compression drivers on the market.

Thanks for your help!
These drivers have 4 screws connecting them to the horn.--Gary--

if you decide on a pair of used horn drivers but they dont fit I have seen horn adapters so they can be used .

That EV horn isn't the standard 4-bolt pattern... at least I don't think that it is...
I should probably stop giving "advice" now; I am in over my head. -
Mark I am not sure about "standard", but it is 4 bolt.--Gary--

The "pro" 4 bolt standard is four holes (driver tapped for 1/4"-20 threads) spaced 90 degrees on a 4" circle, see, e.g., http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2446.pdf
Now, a JBL 2446J would be a tad bit of overkill even if it did fit :-)

Yeah those JBL's are a lil' bit over the top. These horns were gonna go into an eWave project. So little money as possible was the aim.
Here are some pics. The way these are made I doubt I could even get to the VC's. That is just a screen and spacers on that one pic. There was a lot of dust inside when I took it apart.
