Generally speaking 12 ft apart is too much for most bookshelves. I know of somebody who like you had both a two-channel and a separate HT setup in the same room. He placed his HT towers on small 4-wheel trucks that he would wheel into place for movies. This allowed him to enjoy his two-channel rig without undo sound reflections.

Having experienced both, the Totems have a more open presentation with a more natural/brighter top end, and surprising bass response. The Rainmakers are a bit more nasal-sounding with certain recordings. The LSi's in all honesty suffer from a mediocre x-over. But, by searching this forum you can find DIY upgrades that really take them to a new level.

I see what you mean....I could put them inside the mains,so they would be about 6 feet apart....I'm going to check out the Totem's as soon as my Patriot's game ends.I like what you said about the top end.....thankx

mark thanks for that post. are you referring to the dreamcatchers? If you are I want them. I think what you described is exactly what I want. I am a drummer and I am all about the cymbals. I have a feeling the lsi7 will play nicely with the totems. I think I might need another amp to drive all 4. this is the thread im referring to.

I was a drummer too in my youth so I understand your desire to enjoy cymbals. I've owned all three budget Totem bookshelves (Dreamcatchers, Mites, Rainmakers), the Dreamcatchers are really a small office, sit on the bookshelf speakers. The Mites are comparable to the LSi7's with a brighter top end, but less bass detail. I still regret having to sell mine, but it was time to move up the chain. The Rainmakers are the ones I would recommend, put them on a nice set of stands and sit back and enjoy. For a real treat hook them up to a tube amp, that is where Totems are really special sounding. Don't mix the LSi7's and the Totems, instead, upgrade the x-over so that the Vifa tweeter in the 7's can show its stuff.

Hey Pietro.........I love my lsi 7's.......I got the crossovers modded (by Face) and they sound much better than stock 7's. The high's sparkle...the mids are clear and open...the bass is nice and tight. I'll probably never sell these. You could buy refurbs and get crossovers modded and be within your budget
    Main Rig:

The LSi7 or LSi9 are not that hard to drive, regardless of the 4ohm rating.

We drove the 7's in your guest bedroom at PF with an 8 watt stereo tube amp, and 20 watt tube monoblocks. Didn't get anywhere CLOSE to gassing them. We gave Al Ballard a demo, and all he had to say was 'That's a nice 8 watt amp'.

I remember that night, as I was setting up that rig, and you were setting up the Maggies in the front room - and it was a race (in my mind anyway) - and through the silence came 'Nobody's Fault but Mine' and Anthony was the first to appear in a matter of seconds. L O L.
