Holding on but what is their asking price ? I can't afford to buy good spares at this time. Heck, that's part of why I sold the one I had. To raise cash and help a fellow Polkie out at the same time.

Does Polk have any of their originals left?

Wonder if there's a drop in replacement/ upgrade woofer for the stock drivers? Doesn't have to be Polk drivers either.

I saw what looked like powerfull replacements at Parts Express a couple or more years ago and they were 80.00 each. I don't think they sell them anymore though. I think it was a clear-out type sale.. But who knows what they will have in each monthly sale..

This did not come to a reality unfortunately as the manufacture was unwilling to change the plate size...

The cost would have been roughly $280 each --- 350 watts, 4 ohms

Thanks for trying Trey. Us RT3000p system owners for life appreciate it.:cool:

Yeah! I think I may have given up! LOL

I am going to get a sheet of aluminum cut for the back of mine and install some posts and use an external amp! :)

Just ordered two aluminum plates 1/4" thick! Should be here middle/end of next week...

Going to drill some holes and take some names!

Going to get these subs usable!

I am thinking I am going to direct wire two sets of posts so I can wire up the sub anyway I want without taking it apart!

Did some quick research and it looks like these are indeed oak veneer!!! I took some sand paper and sanded away the BLACK! I am STOAKED!

Going to refinish these bad boys, slap that plate on the back - probably repaint the fronts and bases and throw some bitchin spikes on there!

That was going to be my suggestion. Exactly the same thing I have in mind for when the amps in my SRT subs go out....get my brother in law to machine me a couple of aluminum plates and connect an external amp.

I'd be interested in your assessment of how they sound with quality external amplification vs. the original plate amp. I've heard from another SRT owner who did the external amplification that the subs were much more musical after the switch although I must say I never had any complaints about the RT3000 subs when I owned them.

Great Idea. I think They would make great subs on their own with the right power.

    They might.

I plan to remove the woofers - I will throw it on the WT3 and see if they measure similar...

One thing to note the drivers Polk used are actually pretty phenominal...

I plan to fully refinish them - possibly build a new, wood base that is far heavier duty with nice spikes - put No-Rez near the rear cabinets and dynamat the baskets and port tube

Going to direct wire both drivers to the plate on the back.

    Hey! I cant spell!

The drivers are bad **** for a OEM 8" woofer for a lower end Tower!

Wasn't talking about the spelling. Was referring to the woofers being phenomenal.

I contacted that Funky Waves owner to see how much a curved box would be for that 12" TC sounds sub you got. He hasn't got back to me yet?

I have never dealt with Funky waves - that is odd.

But the RT3000p drivers from what I understand are based off the Momo line of subs and are absolutely great drivers. For their purpose I do not think you would need to "upgrade" them - now if you wanted to go crazy the Epic drivers may work but would not be needed unless you wanted to use them as a dedicated HT sub, IMO.

Contact Tyler Acoustics - he will most likely build you a box! :)
