Wow, 4 whole posts before someone posts something that's likely going to turn this thread into an argument, impressive...

When you start a post with the words "Bin Laden" in it, what do you expect to follow ? Seriously, how could you talk about him, the mission, soldiers, the wars, and expect cotton candy responses ?

Good read.......I had thought there was video being taken from the various news sources. Would have made sense with the look on the faces of those in that room when that picture was taken of everyone watching what was going on.......

    Quoted from the article:
If all went according to plan, the SEALs would drop from the helicopters into the compound, overpower bin Laden's guards, shoot and kill him at close range, and then take the corpse back to Afghanistan.

Quite powerful statement: the plan was to kill him, not to capture

Indeed. I'm glad this is getting out to the public. After the mission I posted in one of the threads here that it appeared the objective was to kill Bin Ladin, and any adult males with him.

Did anyone think the mission was to not kill the guy ? I mean we didn't spend trillions, sacrifice lives, spend 10 years there to find him and play a thousand questions.

Sorry for the sarcasm, just don't see the big deal over if the mission was to kill or not to kill him. Or maybe I'm missing something....could be, I'm pretty much dead before my 2nd pot of coffee.

I would have rather it been with something other than a bullet.

At the time there was a lot of wishing he had surrendered and been captured, and wondering why he wasn't captured.

The big deal is that the order from above was an unambiguous order to kill Bin Ladin, any adult male with him, and anybody else who interferes. Do not waste any time trying to capture him. Just kill him. I think that sends a bit of a statement. More than Gitmo, or any other symbolic threats. But for a statement to have any effect, people, both domestic and foreign, need to be aware of it.

Yeah, I know what your saying, but to address that scenario, we have to travel down that political road which is frowned upon.

If you'd like we can take it over to the Polk Army board to discus further. Not a member ?? Join up my man, we can throw darts all day over there.
