Vector Research VR-5000?

Hi,

Does anyone know anything more about this unit? I picked up a Kenwood receiver today (KR-5400, one of the smaller Kennies--35 x 2 watts) and the guy threw this in for 'free'.

It says its 44 X 2 watts RMS. Has a 270 watt power draw from the wall and is made in Japan--I would assume sometime in the '70s.

The unit is functional, lights work, powers up, FM works, etc. Sound is fairly clean and reasonably powerful.

I can't complain. But was wondering if anyone knew any more...because google is not turning up much?

Also, the tuning dial is a bit 'funky'... it locks in stations and works normally but is making some kind of mechanical sound (you have to listen for it...it's like having bad tire alignment on a car?).

Thanks!

The name 'Vector' attatched to just about anything has failed, doesn't mean the products sucked, just didn't find their nitch. VR had some very nice rigs in the 70's.

The Vector has a whole different ball game...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8NpJWIuF_w

I've picked up a couple of Vector Research components over the years and they seem to be made very well. They still work so that says alot for them and the styling is great! too.

I still have mine but do need a receiver or amp to go with the said components.

I had a Vector Research EQ in the early 80's it was well built and I never had any problems with it. I then moved it on to a friend to free up room, and he never had any complaints.

Got the VR-5000 up an running on a pair of HH Scott S-11s that I picked up as well..

Not a bad little setup. The S-11s can put out some low end and are pretty efficient (3 way sealed 10'). The VR-5000 seems to have a nice tuner; it brings in some nice detail on the high end and has plenty of power to handle the Scotts--which seem to me to be a pretty good Rock speaker, but they can handle other genres as well. For what I paid for these two and the Technics RS-933W cassette player that was thrown into the purchase, you couldn't even buy a quality dinner for two in a major city?

    Everything above under $80.

That sounds like a very good deal! And you got a cassette deck as well, nice! Start making some tapes , it's more fun than sitting at a 'puter pushing buttons

I like seeing that name "Vector Research" at goodwill and yard sales...problem is, they almost never appear.:frown:

Congrats on that vintage system for under a 100.

Can anyone suggest how to fix a simple balance problem? does anyone have a schematic to a VR 5000? I have a tuner that has worked beautifully for the past 20 years only the right channel has just stopped working. fuses replaced, completely cleaned. can't seem to locate the problem...any other suggests?
