Pretty cool Pink Floyd news

Today is a good day. First, it's Friday, so I can have a beer. Second, I came home, and the latest issue of Rolling Stone, stereophile, and Home Theater were in the mailbox. Third, on page 18 of Home Theater, they have news of the latest 5.1 mixes of Pink Floyd's catalog.

According to this, in September Wish You Were Here will be released in a Box Set on Bluray 24/96 5.1, and the original two channel. There will also be a DVD with lossy versions of the 5.1, and the original quad (released on LP and 8 track), and the original stereo is in LPCM, although they do not mention if this is lossless or lossy. But who uses a DVD player anymore.

There will also be a remastered two-channel CD, along with the usual BS; pictures, video and audio extras, booklets, etc.

However, this is the part that SUCKS, big time. In addition to the above, there will be an SACD sold separately. The suck part is the Box Set cost $100, and you still have to buy the SACD, price not mentioned.

Box sets will also be released for Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall, but only in stereo.

Enjoy.

I'm cool with the WYWH SACD (FINALLY!) sold separately part and more interested in the vinyl releases, personally.

Vinyl might happen, but there was no mention in the article. I will get the SACD, but can't see paying $100 for a high-res version on Bluray.

Excellent as it's the only thing I'm intertested in.

Actually this is old news. I'm pretty sure it was Danny that spilled the beans a few months ago.

Does the SACD have the quad mix as well?

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The article did not mention it. I liked the 8 track reference for the quad. It will be interesting to hear some DVD reviews of it.

Umm...the vast majority of people out there still don't have Blu-ray players. I only personally know like 3-4 people that even have one yet. Most people are still using DVD players exclusively...A lot of people out there don't even know what the hell a Blu-ray is.

I'm stoked for the SACD release!! Not too worried about the Blu-ray releases though, since I'm probably not even going to own a Blu-ray player for another few years at least. I'm waiting for average Blu-ray prices to reach the realm of sanity before I make that upgrade. I'd be interested in the DVD version though(even if it is "lossy").

    It's less than the $50.00 SHM-SACD's.

I'm looking forward to these, but am going to wait until they are in the wild and see some reviews first. I've been burned too many times by 'remasters'. I imagine these will be well done, bit I'm going to wait and see before I put my money down.

Everyone seems to be discussing them with the assumption that they'll be good, so I'm looking forward to them.

I think that's a very fair price. If you truly believe 35.00 is high, wait until it goes OOP.

Or, it could be like The Dark Side of the Moon. Which is what I expect, and hope for. Greedy prices for hybrid SACDs will never help sell others on the benefits of SACD.
