Thats a Polk RTA-12. Judging by the SL-1000 tweeter, I'd say it's a 12B, but I think it could also be an early 12C. Others know more, and will likely chime in.

RTA stands for Real Time Array. Is has to do with the tweeter being recessed. There are other RTA's, but the 12 is the only true RTA. There was a 12A, 12B, and 12C. There were 3 main types of tweeters used through the series, but they don't coincide perfectly with the A, B, and C designation. There was the Peerless (in a couple varieties), the SL-1000, and the SL-2000.

There is a modern drop in replacement for that SL-1000 called the RD0-194. You can get them from Polk. They sound better... smoother.

    RTA-12's were produced in the mid/late 80's.

That's a great sounding speaker. One of my favorite vintage Polks for sure!

    Edit:

Welcome to Club Polk! Lots of good info here on those speakers and everything else audio. Numerous threads have come up recently on the RTA-12's. Use the search function.

RTA 12b or c. Dad has a pair of the 12c's but the faceplate on the tweeter isn't light like these are here so I'd have to guess they're 12b's. just a guess of course.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....
