Simple, I own Rti38's which are huge so they can't be moved to my back wall without looking stupid and sticking out a mile, my couch sits right on the back wall of my small room,

Question is..... you all know i just got the csi30 for rear center duty and it works fine, But i can still return it to Crutchfield for a refund of $150.00 and free return shipping.. I got the fxi30's for $77.25 + tax for the pair and was thinking of putting them on the back wall for rear backs.. what do you think???

This is the ONLY option, so a yes or no would be great and why or why not.. Thanks everyone who takes the time to help me out here.. regardless i will be keeping the fxi's just a matter if i use them now or not...

I vote FXi30's. But realistically, since you have both speakers, experiment. Choose the one you like better. Test with 5.1 and ES material.

    faster,

I'm using my new FXi30's for back surrounds. Putting them in bipole mode when used as rear surrounds is very satisfying. In bipole mode, they are supposed to make sound in all directions. Since much of the back surround is ambient souces, they excell as back surrounds. If your sitting area is on or near the back wall like mine is, definitely use the FXi30's.

    My 7.1 setup consists of:
    Denon 3803
    Panasonic DVD
    RTi70s front
    CSi40 front center
    RTi28s side surround
    FXi30s back surround

I would say yes to the FXi30's. You are 7.1 capable, so why not. I think that they do indeed have a better fill in HT than a Direct speaker. I need a Direct Radiating for my room design, so while I would'nt choose them, they may work great for you.

    That was a great deal.

Well doro, don't you have the fxi30's?? I will use Rti38's as side surrounds and fxi30's for back surrounds.. I am packing the csi30 up now, unless someone wants it for what i paid + ship? $149.99

suppose i will ship it back to Crutchfield Monday..

fixing to hang the fxi30's right now.

already boxed the csi30 up for return tomorrow, installed the fxi30's and listened to some tunes while sitting around and i like the sound, actually i can hear the fxi's better then the csi30 for some reason, and they give a effect different from direct radiating speakers that i kinda like.. i have NEVER used bi-directional speakers so this is new for me but i like it, and geez the deal i got i just still cant beleive it.. I saved over 60 bucks getting the fxi and returning the csi30 center.. what a deal.. i am truely happy now, the csi30 was nice but it was just a finisher and i didn't get awwed over it, but the fx's are nice looking and perform quite well ..................

Faster - Yes, I do have FXi30's but not for rear surround duty. When I upgrade the center to the CSi40, the CSi30 gets moved into the rear center slot.

Your question was FXi30 for rear surround duty right?

That's cool that you are enjoying the new configuration.

ok your right, Its the best next step for you.. being you have the csi30 already.. had i not had the rti38's i would have put the fxi30's as sides and moved some rti28's or csi30 to rear duty.. the 38's as sides are really huge on the wall and they would look silly on my small back wall, i really wanted the fxi50's but at 499.99 they can keep them, not many people are running specials if they even have them, and this way, i actually make money back.. sometimes its not always the plan how things turn out but the deals you find, lol

i think this will work good though, you will like the csi30 as a rear though i think..

Faster - :D I hear ya, a great deal is a great deal.

My room is such that the CSi30 is a better choice for me, thats really the only reason. Why didn't they build homes in the late 70's with 6.1 Home Theatre in mind?? Damn them, no freakin' forethought at all! :)

Small? Eff! My room is suited for a boombox......I have towers, and soon to hopefully be a PB2 ISD in a 10.5x10.5 room! Small.....pssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhh! Hehe!

I need to get ahold of some Di-Bi Pole speakers, my surround placement options look to be in need of them. Will see how the 35i does as surrounds, see if they can suffice.

look around little bro, I got mine by calling and calling and demanding price matches, and quoteing other stores haveing them cheaper and so on, when/if you get the money search and put in the time and effort and it will pay off, I spend alot of time calling and asking questions, 2 weeks ago i had a CC manager say he would sell me a set of rti150's for $399.00 each, of course people on here got them cheaper (by CC's mistake, i called) But that is 800.00 compared to the almost 1600.00 about 6 months ago... persistance pays off

    Its a long story, very un-interesting :)

The FXi30's create a null in the near rear portion of my HT room. I plan to fire the CSi30 into that null.

EDIT: It doesn't show up right, nevermind, I am 2 dumb tonight.

If you only knew how long it took to create my pathetic drawing above you would laugh.

Basically thats my room. The letters mean the speaker series from my sig, the ? is the future slot. The 2CH setup is going on that same wall with the rear center high and bracketed. A bumpout in the top right ceiling keeps me from mounting Dipole/Bipole type speakers. The center channel keeps it simple and clean for my room.

wow ok confusing but i take your word, rooms are crazy. Mine likes to put a bass null right at my sweet spot and in the center of the room, go figure. But the back right corner the bass increases by atleast 5 DB believe that or not..
