today i got a new air conditioner put in and it went wrong here's what happened

I asked my buddy to bring it from the store and install it so he called me and we brought it inside . He went out to get some drop clothes etc and I plugged in his shop vac . I thought I may as well start the ball rolling so I switched it on and BOOM!!! . F'n sheet rock dust started pumping out the back of it right onto the pannel of one of my Martin Logan speakers and audio rack and the whole room and I totally antiqued my whole room . I switched it off as quick as I could running into the bdroom for blankets just like the place was on fire .I was panicking as I threw the blankets over the speakers .I had all 5 lined up under the projector screen and the 3 center channels were facing up so they got antiqued

I have been vacuming them for hours and I dont know if its my imagination but after I got them all cleaned up it seems like I have lost a few decibels

My bud told me he took off the filter so he could use it to suck up the water and if I would have waited for him I would have found that out

The moral of the story is **** happens to some more than others

Sorry that happened!! That sucks..no pun intended.

Your decibel loss is just from the vacuum noise affecting your hearing for a day.

So you were vacuuming up sheetrock dust and it was just shooting it out as you picked it up kind-of scenario?
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

pfb, real sorry to hear that, I doubt you damaged them or suffered any real output loss. I have the original Sequel's, they have that neat sensor that cuts power to the panels unless a signal is present, so they don't get much dust on them. I still vacuum them once a month with my trusty 1950's ElectrLux tank vac.

I assume your in the ML Owners Forums, have you posted over there? I think your worse case senario would be you have to take them apart and wash the panels and the stators, there's pleanty of threads over there on how to do that properly...You did unplug them for 12 hours before you vacuumed them right??? Please tell me you did.

Posting on the ML forum is like trying to get blood out of a stone .I asked a question 2 weeks ago about what alternative power adapters for the matinee can you use and still no answer lol . But if you ask a question about somthing that costs 15K then they are all willing to help

I might take the panels off for a wash with pure water this weekend when time allows

I wouldn't do that unless it's a last resort, just how much is still on there? You should post a pic of them, so I can see, I'll help a fellow Loganite

The panels look good and you would never notice anything from a pic posted . I am just realy paranoid about the dust you cant see because the performance of them depends on them having not even a microgram on the mylar. Very tricky speakers to own and I always feel uneasy about them sitting in the room .They are a bit of an eyesore with the covers on them

Do you keep yours coverd all the time ? I vacume mine every 2/3 days and still feel like dust is ruining them

I was actually going to keep this part to myself

When taking the speakers apart to clean then I snapped the black wire off my matinee center channel and it wont play the full range of sound .When I touch it to the panel the it plays fine so I gota re-attach it somehow I was going to wait a little while before I asked how to fix it back on . The sod used on it appears to be silver in color

Nope, no covers, they are essentally powered off with no signal present. I'm seeing a problem with your cleaning, you can damage the panels if you don't allow at least 12 hours after unplugging them from the wall, you need a good strong tank or upright vacuum with a long tube, cup your hand around the end and slowly move across the panel stator, see below.

You didn't have to remove the cover on that center speaker, why are you so impatient? Your going to ruin those nice ML's, please read up on the maintenence on them :frown:
