640 Azur problems

My Cambridge Audio 640 Azur is no longer working . When I put in a disc a message flashes "no play". I have taken the top off and used a dry cue tip on the laser. The same message comes up. When I put in the disc I do not see the laser lighting up. I called the dealer where I purchased the unit 5 years ago and was told that if it is the laser it would be too costly to replace it. Any thoughts? Would it be too costly and if not who can fix these?
Thanks

I'd call Cambridge Audio and see how much a sled assembly or new optical pickup would cost. The verbage may vary but its enough to get you some, not just a wanna be repair guy, information.
You can fix it. The assembly is most likely available as one part, with multiple sub-components available individually. Just find out what the whole assembly costs since you don't know what's going on at a component level.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
