edited August 2011 in Vintage Speakers
I've been a casual Polk fan over the years, never knew much about their vintage stuff. I blew the tweeters in my R50's, so I decided to start looking for a new (old) set of speakers... ran across a pair 2A's (with interconnect, which I knew nothing about) on craigslist for $120.00....got them home, and WOW, the best speakers I've heard in my 36 years.

I've done a fair amount of research in the week since I've had these, and want to buy other vintage Polks. The same seller has a pair of Monitor 5jr's for $60.00, and another guy has a regular pair of Monitor 5's for $75.00. I've also found some RTA-8T's for $95.00 for the pair. I need to replace my Boston Center Channel and would like to replace the R30's in the rear.

Any advice would be welcome!

    666 posts. Not good.

Seriously though, great snag. SDA's up front, Monitor 5 or 5jr's in the back, and an RTA-8T as your center(if you have the room).

I picked up a pair of RTA-12C's for $120 over the weekend and it was the best $120 I've ever spent on a pair of speakers. And like you, it's got me itching to replace my other speakers with vintage Polks.

i know how that feels. i can remember back to the 1st time i heard a pair of sda. it was a set of srs2 hooked up to an onkyo reciever. even with the low power the sound blew me away. now 16 years later i finally have a pair of my own, the original sda 2s. really makes me want to buy more vintage pieces

    Couldn't hurt.
Is there a B on the back of the cabinet?
Or does the interconnect have a pin and blade or 2 blades like a normal plug?
    Oh and congratulations and welcome.

I'm running 1Cs off 45 wpc tube amps, and they get plenty loud. If the H/K has good current, they should be fine.

Congrats on the buy. I do love that SDA effect.

Welcome Masonsmitty. Great pick up for a lot cheaper than what I paid for them in the 80's. Enjoy. If they have the sl2000 tweeters, you may want to spring for the 194's.
