Well I finally got around to getting a turntable. An attorney at work had one new in box he no longer needed so he passed it along to me for free .

Its not vintage so not sure how good it is, but its free so it cant be too bad. Its a Sony PS-LX250H.

Going to hook it up to my setup downstairs for use with the LSi's. Eventually it might migrate into a dedicated 2 channel room when I get that setup.

For right now though, while the HK3490 has a phono input, its connected to Monitor 60's and I want to listen to everything on the LSi's.

The dedicated room will someday get a tube pre to replace the HK3490, a nice 2 channel amp or 2 monoblocks, and a set of Maggies... at that point I would probably move the turntable in their.

Is this a decent turntable? I would assume since its newer it might have some decent tech behind it, but am not sure.

Appreciate any thoughts/advice for a turntable newbie.

In other news, I am hoping on Saturday to do some searching for some Vinyl. Anyone have some suggestions on some good albums to purchase? Going to look for beatles stuff for the wife, but other suggestions are appreciated.

It looks like it has it's own built in phono pre, so you should be able to connect it to a cd of aux input on anything you like. For the price, not a bad way to go.

Gotcha, but would it sound better using a dedicated phono input on something like the HK?

No offense, but with that TT you probably would not hear a difference.

Once you start to get into vinyl, there will be plenty of advice on how to get the most out of it. And once you are ready to upgrade, you won't have to spend a bunch to get a really good used TT.

Like the others said, it's just a cheapy TT for copying your Lps to the computer. You live in a major metro area, hunt down some used record stores, and buy a bunch of stuff that trips your trigger, start hunting at garage sales, scour Craigslist ads, tell your friends and co-workers you have a TT, see what you get for free . Then when the bug hits (and it will!!) start saving up for a decent used TT and cart. You will then be truely amazed and hooked

Don't forget to get a nice Lp cleaning brush and a bottle of Groovy Record cleaner, invaluable for used Lp finds. And keep that Sony when you get a better one down the road, it will work perfect as a test TT for unknown used Lps later on. Welcome back to analog!!!
