2 subs better than 1?

At the risk of asking a silly question - is running 2 smaller subs better than running 1 larger?

Assume comparison within 1 particular brand and line. For instance, I am currently looking at Velodyne DLS subs. I have been considering either the 12" or the 15", but then today got to thinking that maybe running 2 x 10" would be a better way to go?

My room is 18 x 21 x 7.5 - it will not be dedicated only to HT - system usage itself will be HT/general TV viewing/casual gaming (little music). Part of my thinking is cost - I can get the 2 x 10" for about $100 more than the single 12" and about $100 less than the 15" - plus the 15" is a huge monster.

I worry that the single 12" is not going to be enough, but I struggle with the cost of the 15". My receiver is 7.2, so I have the option of going the 2 sub route.

Also, being in Canada, about the only significant alternative sub I can easily get is SVS, and their cost is prohibitive to me. Getting into HSU, Epik or ED requires jumping through some cumbersome hoops with US 3rd party shipping and transporting across the border that I just don't want to get into.

Any thoughts anyone can provide are appreciated.

Lots of threads in this forum and a lot of other forums as well on this topic. 2 subs provides smoother output since you have a better change of nullifying the dead spots in your room. You wont get lower frequency response necessarily, but more output with less distortion as each individual sub will not have to be set at a higher volume in a dual setup. Some will say 2 of the same brand/model are better while others have achieved good enough solutions using sub equalizers even with different subs. There's a nice article by gene delasalla at audioholics (http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/get-good-bass/two-subs) that discusses this very topic of whether a single large sub vs 2 smaller ones and If I recall correctly, he chose the latter after a fairly thorough evaluation. Then again, your budget will decide if its worth the extra cash.

Thought about Energy subs? They are made in Canada.

2x10 will put out more than the single 12 as long as it has a bigger amp w/it , what the best plan is 2x12 as long as its not to huge and it has a much bigger amp than the single driver sub .
My need for bass out weighs my wallet so I suggest building your own, my sub does 109 db at 20 hz , its usable response is 20-80 hz , I got under $200 in it including the amp (all used ebay stuff) .
But I realize logistics are a problem so choose carefully and buy more sub than you need you can always turn it down but it cant turn it up .
