RT3000p both subs amps have failed - replace with Polk DSW PRO 400?

I have a set of RT3000p speakers and a while back the sub on one side failed. Well yesterday the other went bad and now just puts out a buzz. These are very heavy and I can't imagine what the shipping cost would be to send them to Polk.
So I was wondering if just replacing the bad ones with a Polk DSW PRO 400 would make sense? Would I really be losing much sonically?

I posted in the other thread to. If by chance you manage to fit another amp onto those cabinets, will you give us here at Club Polk a chance to buy your bad amps?
We can always use a spare amp if the price is right and they aren't melted. I have no spare now, good or bad, but if your close to me or another member, we'd like to get first chance offers if you decide to send to another who might want to get them fixed someday when needed.
Either way, good luck. Those are great speakers. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -

Yeah -- what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^! -
How did you have them wired? If you had them hooked up as subs from the LFE output then the other sub amp might work fine.________________

They were both wired so that left or right wires went to the subwoofer and then it was split by the crossover in the sub to the upper speakers.
The first problem was that right sub completely died. It no longer powers up. Then the left side failed, it emits a loud buzz when you plug it into the AC,
I am considering removing the amps from each and mailing them into Polk for repair. -

I would call them first as I don't believe parts for those are available anymore, so in essence, your sol, unless you can find some used ones on the cheap.
If I was you, I'd sell the whole speaker set and move on, you can still get a decent buck for the parts too.HT SYSTEM-

You might check if there's any local repair shop that can fix it. I have the RT3000p setup as well. A couple of years ago, the amp in one went bad & I bought a new one from Polk (they still had replacements) for around $400 or so and kept the bad amp. A few months ago, the other amp started buzzing loudly too. I found a local shop that specializes in vintage electronics, and they repaired the original one that went bad & the one that failed most recently. The problem was bad capacitors. Seems like it cost $200 or so. Now the 3000p's sound as good as ever plus I have a spare amp.

Will Polk still repair the RT3000p?
I never want to get rid of mine. -
Yes. They repaired one of mine a few years back for around $70. I was able to drive to the shop so that saved me the shipping. That cost was for replacing the two main capacitors.____________________________________________________________

I have a set of RT3000p subs that are buzzing as well. Also 1 cone from each is blown. Any chance of getting them repaired? If not, I'd sell them.

Polk does not repair these amplifiers anymore.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Any thoughts on how one might rebuild them. I'd hate to just toss them out. For one thing, they are a matching set to my CS1000 and Fx1000s.

Ask Polk if they can send you the schematics, or check the troubleshooting section as I may have posted them. You'll have to do the work based on the schematic. Get a VOM and a soldering iron and get to work dude :cheesygrin:CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Thank you for the tip.

Thanks to all who replied. I called Polk and they said that they would repair them. Mailed them about foure weeks ago and they called with an estimate of $95 each. Turns out some caps blew in one amp and a rectifier and caps in the other one. Got them back this week and put them in the cabinets. Oh man are they nice to have running again! Even bought a turntable to go with my setup. The turntable is a Pro-file Debut III an my receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX.
