Anyone see the new ultra compact class d fullrange amps of Polk posted on the site yet? - http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/pa/index.php#pad4000_4

The 4ch and 5ch models with their full bandpass-capable crossover sections in particular look extremely interesting :)

Here's a few pix for your viewing pleasure:

Wonder if Class D will have any hearable difference in comparission to class AB, especially PA500.4

they aren't out yet so don't think were going to get much comments for a few weeks. But was able to work some magic to get my hands on one of the 4-channels. Should have some pix real soon.

Glad to see Polk has embraced the smaller amp philosophy. As much as I love my PA amps, theyre freaking huge and are a pain in the **** to install anywhere where space is a concern. Hell even in the trunk of my old Accord, they took up half of it!

TK - They aren't cheaply made in any way. I'll ask about a white paper, but remind me if you don't mind ok? They just hit street so hold fast on reviews.

They dont look cheap to me. They look nice and subtle which I like.

Class D amps aren't aimed at the 17 year old kid that just wants to be he loudest guy in his high school parking lot. These are geared for audiophiles looking for good sound so they dont need flashy neons or chrome flames.

Would love to try them out in competition but my PA's are still getting the job done for now.

Yeah, the MSRP on the 4 channel is even cheaper than buying 2 of my Sundown 125.2's which are rocking amps.

And we know it will sell for a bit below MSRP at some locations....

Yeah that has been a big deterrent for me lately.

But we're starting to cool off around here the last couple days so maybe in a week or two I can get outside and maybe come up with a plan to get a system back in this stupid Ford.

No but amps geared to audiphiles make a boat load of power, have zero noise, are extremely efficient and have subtle appearance.

Amps geared for the 17 year old make less power, has turn off pops and chrome flames.

    ?????

What pictures are you looking at?

I don't think you need to see anything. I don't think you'll be satisfied no matter what and you're going to trash the amps based on unrealistic expectations.

Come on. This is a stereotype... Chrome flames don't belong on the audio equipment... They belong on the spinning rims.

For the audiophile, more power = better dynamics. For the 17 year old, more power = louder .

The new polks put out 4x125, that's about what my Genesis does........I wonder if I would hear a difference between A/B and D.

Nope. If they're not level matched you might hear the D a little louder since its much more efficient assuming theyre the same wattage.

Alpine da best! Don't settle for less than this! Your ears deserve to hear the sound quality and output of this amp. My sheet said 1391 RMS watts coming out of this baby.

That's an overly broad, and not necessarily correct claim. Yes, Alpine has made some great amps (and other car audio products), but they've also had some not-so-great products. For example, the original PDX series of amps weren't exactly impressive. They had too high of a noise floor, even for automotive applications. The newer PDX series is certainly better, however, they failed to update the PDX-5 during the refresh. As such, I still couldn't recommend the 5 channel PDX to anyone.

Other brands have good quality amps as well. I have a Kenwood Excelon XR-5S, which is a 5-channel class-D amplifier like the PDX series. However, it has a much lower noise floor compared to the PDX-5. I prefer the sound quality of it over the Alpine PDX's as well; however, that is more of a subjective opinion. If I had the money, I would have purchased a JL Audio HD900/5. However, I simply couldn't justify paying 3 times the price at this point in time. The JL Audio HD series are pretty much the gold standard of class-D car amps right now. However, I am curious to see how these new Polk Audio class-D amps will stack up.

As for your claim of 1391 RMS watts, the number of watts isn't everything. Quality matters as well, and to my ears, the PDX's just aren't that great.

According to him there's sq literally coming out of the amp. I don't think he even needs speakers to hear the absurd amount of sound quality, pdx takes car of that lol.

BeefJerkey - i can't believe you actually responded with such a informative responce to such an idiotic statment that unlike your responce was nothing more then a typical drunken 4am gibberish outside of the bar.

These look like nice amps. Ive only run Class D for sub amp duties in the past, but will probably go full Class D the next time around. Very good efficiency and compact design are a big plus when you have limited space.
