Yeah, like anybody will pay attention.
Anyway, if you work on a computer at your job, any computer of any kind...hell, even a forum that you go to, someone's behind it. There is someone there that you probably rarely see. Toiling away in the server rooms and network closets. Quietly mumbling to themselves about the (L)users that screw everything up and painfully giving up their nights and weekends so that YOUR regular work day of "productivity" isn't ruined.
Yeah, there is always that "IT Nerd" who can't stand you because you view him/her as a slave and an outcast and a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong.
But whenever you need something done and you need it yesterday, they are the first person you call and they usually come through in spades.
They support you and your company would be no where without them. They hold up your world and you never really notice 'cause if they are good at their job, you shouldn't notice.
So if you have a computer on your desk or a server in your farm that you use all the time, find that "nerd" and today, don't call him/her a "nerd" for once. Say "Thanks, man!" and buy him/her lunch and a beer. 'Cause if it wasn't for all their work, you probably wouldn't look half as great as you think you are.
Happy Sys Admins Day and thanks for all you efforts here Patrick!

Man we just got done with that. Fidelity use to manage our servers out of chicago but we brought them in house into our new data center about two months ago. It was a pain but everything is going well now. Now I am working on new project with sharepoint 2010. Automating alot of manual task that some of our departments do and using sharepoint to do it. I can't complain because I am busy and busy is what you want to be these days. I have seen our employee list shrink by 1000 in my short time here. i will have been here a year in September. -
We are automated for alot of stuff. This move though? Thousands of servers. 3 data centers to move too. The thing that sucks is that my small portion of the move has been ready to go for months and I'm sitting around waiting for my change to do my migration. All new work is on hold until the migration is complete too. So I'm in this alternating limbo where it's long periods or slow, mundane days punctuated by short periods of intense chaos. The only thing worse is having to listen to the co-ops complain about how bored they are.

Our 'It Guy' is a Gal or a Broad as she likes to be called, she used to dance with Frank out in Palm Springs back in the day, it wasn't kind to her complextion, she love cigars and Cubans, so for server gal day, I bought her one of each, she said Thanks!
