Paper or plastic

Whether coincidence, or an industry trend, it seems like a lot of CDs I buy are now in cardboard containers versus the usual cheapo plastic holders. While I do like the more robust SACD plastic containers over the cheapo CD plastic containers, even there I prefer the cardboard holder.
I cannot count the number of broken plastic holders I have. The cardboard does not break when I drop it, plus it has pictures, text, etc. printed on it. Sort of album like, but smaller.
Any preferences?

Paper for sure. Put the disc in a good inner sleeve for extra protection from scratches. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Paper, for the same reasons you stated.
I miss LP art work, so this is as close as I can get now. -
One thing I forgot to mention is that double CDs are much better in paper than the useless flip plastic tray for the second CD. I hate those things with a passion. I have managed to break every double CD holder I have ever owned. In fact, I just broke the Lady Gaga double CD holder with the remix songs in the extended edition of Born This Way.
Yes, I am a klutz, but plastic still sucks.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Plastic, only for storage of that medium. Cardboard over time wears, tears, rips and if water [forbidden, but happens] ever enters the scene? Forget about it. Replacement jewel cases can be had for minimal cents. Cardboard? Yeah, good luck replacing that and that which was printed on it.
Not only that but cardboard does not have "X" amount of space in your rack. Plastic Jewel cases do.....and another thing.....when you are looking for that precious album in cardboard that you always listen too? Good luck because it's been worn so much, you can not read it anymore.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

Good points. I did not think of that, especially the water damage. However, so far I broken beau coup jewel cases, but not damaged any cardboard holders. I can not imagine the Beatles In Mono collection in plastic. Not only that but cardboard does not have "X" amount of space in your rack. Plastic Jewel cases do.....
What does this mean? The cardboard CDs are thiner than the plastic so it would seem you can put more cardboard CDs in the same amount of space.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

True, but they are not uniform. That is not a real gripe [unless you are anal] but it can be a hassle if you do not keep your collections in order. With different sizes [widths] comes different storage issues, unless you consistently keep them the same...
...which very few who go through listening to music like I do actually do.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~
