For Trey & Ben - JBL L166 Crossover Upgrade?

My dad has been impressed w/ the XO mods on my LSi9s - and for someone who lectures me on spending money on audio stuff, he's been impressed w/ m 2ch and HT setups.

I was wondering how feasible it would be to do it - I've never cracked open those big boys so not sure how clean the xo setup is. Thoughts?

I think below is the circuit diagram and perhaps some stock crossovers for the L166s, as well as the speakers themselves. His are in great condition - I figure if he refuses to part with them, perhaps they can be upgraded ;)

Just an idea...
Dali Optikon 1Mk2
NAD D3020 V2
Schiit Bifrost 2/64

..the rest are headphone setups.

I had a feeling you'd be up for this - thanks! I'll take a closer look at the speakers this weekend - perhaps crack them open and take some photos. Most probably it'll be a month or two before he can do this, but I thought I'd quietly start the pre-work.

Hi guys! I just came across this quite old post with the same thing in mind - rebuilding the L166's crossover and then swapping it. Are you still around to share some insights about this project with me?

The schematic is listed above showing the value of the 2 caps and 2 resistors. I also noted the sensitivity is rated at 76, 1 watt@ 3 meters. That's horrible!!!

Something does not seem right about that -- maybe that is the old EIA sensitivity spec, which was something like dB SPL at 30 feet (roughly ten meters, though) at 1 mW input power. https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/119152-old-speaker-efficiency-rating-40s-db-print.html

    EDIT: hmm...

Yeah, this says 40 to 46 dB EIA (= 89.2 to 95.2 dB SPL @ 1 meter / 1 watt), depending on driver/frequency range, which sounds mo' better.

Wow I barely even remember starting this thread lol. I didn't end up messing with the speakers as they were okay (still mains in my dad's ht).
