Opeth has just released their new single for their much anticipated Heritage Album due out in September.
The New Single is called "The Devils Orchard", and after listening to it I have to say I love seeing them move to their musical influences of 70's progressive metal.
And for anyone that knows Opeth, there will be no growls in this CD, so rest assured all you cookie monster haters, there is a great new Prog Rock album heading our way!

I've been looking forward to this album, curious how it's going to turn out.
Based on the one song I like it, but not as much as their other stuff. It's still a blind buy from one of my favorite bands, but maybe not quite as anxious now having heard that song. -
I hear Wilson's back on the boards on this album, so that is encouraging.

Dream Theater is also releasing their new album this fall, here's the released single from that album. I had pretty much the exact same reaction to both the Opeth and DT tracks, both good but neither really 'inspiring' me to go get the album, though I'll still buy both albums on release date.

Yeah I heard the new DT song and was a little unimpressed. As for Opeth I am encouraged. Always excited to see bands make major changes. Same goes with DT, song may not wow me, but still looking forward to it. Also redemption has a new cd in October I believe.

I actually liked the new DT. Im a huge Mangini fan and think he'll bring some cool new style to DT's new album and it should sound better with Portnoy not producing it.
As for Opeth, that track sounds pretty damn good. Will have to check them out when it drops.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

The sound on that new song is the same sound they've had for the last few albums, doesn't sound any different to me.
People have been giving Portnoy crap for years for his producing skills, he's not doing this album so if all those people are right then this new album should sound materially different than the last few, and my money right now says it won't -
My problem with DT over the last few albums has been the lyrics. I am not looking for mind melting stuff, but it was bad. But I know petrucci was involved with it also. I think the hardcore fans are really excited to see the return of John Myung and his writing. And for me I always will be a huge DT fan, so I am looking forward to it.

I've actually enjoyed most of the stuff on their last few albums, but there have been some real stinkers as well. 'Wither', especially coming from that band, is one of the worst songs ever written and recorded. They should be truly ashamed of themselves for that, and probably regret it now.
It's not secret that I'm a huge DT fan, but that track was garbage...
