Well I could take out the Northcreeks out of my 1.2's and try them in my CRS+'s

Tony and Quadzilla have really good points, both of which I am experiencing now. I've never heard any other SDA other than my CRS+, but...when I got them back in 1989 in the Navy store in the Phillipines, the show room guy auditioned Bose 901's, high end Klipschs, High End JBL's and so on, all really good speakers at the time. But when I heard the CRS+, there was no mistaking that special quality beautiful sound.

I got a lot of ribbing from the fellas when I came back with them, as they weren't "powerful" like the other speakers, and no one for over 20 years or so knew what the heck I saw in them until I found this forum.

Although they didn't have the bass and punch and power, they had what I like. So I think Tony is right with what young sl2000's had for voice, and more can be better for the drivers. The newer tweeters are certainly better though, not much argument there. Quadzilla is also right in that there is no way that the crs+ can produce the bass that should be there to bring it all together. I have noticed, that although not loud, the bass is superb in my little speakers. I drive a massive sub box with 2 15" 4ohm speakers powered by a separate amp with a subwoofer feed from my avr, so for me bass is no problem. Sometimes I'm enjoying the bass and then I realize I didn't even have my subwoofers on.

I replaced my sl2000's with the 194's, and have been listening to everything like I've never heard before. Toolforlifefan has me salivating right now, and in my opinion created the best thread I've read. I just ordered the 198's from Polk, and am having another forum member do the crossover for me so that it can be done right. I gave away my sl2000's to another member in need. If I am experiencing what I am now with only the 194 upgrade, I can't wait to be with toolforlifefan in being in even more awe of these speakers when I do my crossovers and 198 upgrade. By having a separately driven subwoofer, I think the need for extra drivers and bigger space is negated, and the simplicity of the crs+ really carries the subtle details like no other speaker.

I love this thread. I was once alone, but now see others calling my little much made fun of speakers, "jewels".

thanks for the love brothers, I needed it after uh, 22 years. I listened to so many songs and the other day trying to write down which ones were particularly good for SDA, and they all were. Crazy.

But of course, the impressive list is forever. I listened to Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Zepplin, Stones, Beatles, Classical Symphonies, Country, even some Snoop Dogg sippin on Gin and Juice, and there I was, laid back, SDA on my mind, and mind on my SDA.

on Vuze, I downloaded the top 500 all time rock songs and it is great. they are only mp3's, but still sound good. the best files I think are the flac files, but I have to stream them from my mac to the ps3 to the system. Now the ps3 does the earth, stars, and space for a screensaver while playing music. It's pure heaven for me with lights low and my 150" screen playing the earth while hearing all the music all over the universe.

Thanks for the thread again, the CRS+ is the greatest speaker for sure, but a little extra bass does give it the big speaker sound. I just don't give too much bass because it kills it. Having a separate subwoofer doesn't take away, because it doesn't matter the direction.

when I was turning 12, my parents told me I could have my dad's system if I maintained good grades for one year. That was a ****. I could do it easily for a short stretch, but a whole year meant I actually had to do my homework. I did it, got the old school realistic receiver, BSR mcdonald turntable and then I took my messy child room and put in some colored bulbs in my lamps, made my room nothing but a music den with a bed. I've been upgrading ever since. I'm more excited now than I was when I was twelve having to do homework consistently for a whole year.

Now I feel like my list of upgrades is like doing homework, but this time it is fun. When I was twelve, I would listen for hours by myself in my pre-man cave enjoying the subtle awesome music, and now I'm doing it all over again.

When I modded my CRS+ into the 4.1TL I used them for a few months in the big rig. They were a vast improvement over the stock CRS+. Then I decided to put my modded 2.3TL's back into service. I should have never taken them out. The 4.1TL's are collecting dust.
I fell in love with my SRS 2's, I almost sold them to pickup a set of 2.3tl

    You should have.

It takes actual experience listening to the difference for some Jesse. If he actually heard the difference, I'm sure he would agree. Get yor ears on some modded 2.3tl's Don.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I have had every SDA model known short of the SRS, I have kept the SDA 2Bs. They do what the CRS+ do with a little more bass and no need for stands. Not saying the bigger models don't have their strengths, but the sound I hear from the simpler design of the CRS+ or 2B is better, IMHO.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

Actually, Larry, on the inductors you should read DarqueNight's thread about Northcreek vs. Solen, he ended up recommending the Solens. I purchased the Solens already for my CRS+ project.

I've used NorthCreek exclusively up until I couldn't get my discount anymore and went to Solen due to cost. They're the better value now of course.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

And.... I never actually did hear a set of 2.3tl... Where were you guys several months ago when I was trying to make the decision and everyone was talking me into staying with my SRS 2's!!!!

    Don

How big of a room do you have for these LARGE polk SDA-SRS's. Each bigger model is supposed to require more breathing space. Those SDA-SRS2's are VERY hard to beat from any contender!!! And your's will be modded....Good grief, you might not care what a SDA SRS 2.3TL would sound like after you get em set back up.
    Enjoy
