The Official CP Goodwill/Thriftshop Thread

With all the recent good-luck at Goodwill, I thought it might not be a bad idea to start a thread to document our good fortune at these stores. I was also thinking that perhaps setting the weekend of August 12-15 as CP Goodwill day.
The idea is that we all visit our local goodwill stores and share the results, and of course donate all that stuff in our homes that is taking up much needed space for more audio gear.
Any interest?

I like the idea. I've found quite a few items at my local thrift stores lately and I've been meaning to put some pics up and get opinions but just haven't found the time. Most of what I find would not be considered great finds by alot on here maybe, but everything I bought lately has been under $20. A B&O RX turntable (needs needle), Onkyo TX integrated receiver, and a pair of baby Advents (need surrounds) that sound surprisingly decent in their present condition. Give me a day or 2 and I'll post pics cause I know if not it didn't happen.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

Seems like a good idea to me... I try to post my finds as I find them - but adding them to the great goodwill / thrift store score thread seems like a fine idea to me too....
I'll take some pics of my latest score and post them - which was a pair of realistic nova 10sYamaha RX-V2700, EMI 711As (front), RCA K-16 (rear), Magnavox Console (Center & TV Stand), Sony SMP-N200 media streamer, Dual 1249 TT =--- Sharp Aquas 60" LCD tellie -

All I've ever found there were albums. Some were in excellent condition though. Probably have bought about 15 or so in the past three years, at $.99 each.Samsung HL61A750 LED DLP

Also perhaps get a list of items wanted by other members (like vinyl) going on this thread. That way if one of us stumbles across it we can buy it and then get it to whoever wants it. That might not work out much, but it cant hurt. I know Vinyl is a bit of a pain to come by.
Personally this Saturday I am going to hit up as many Goodwills in Indy as I can and maybe a Pawn Shop or two looking for a very cheap (sub 80 dollar) pre to start my 2 channel build, and who knows what I might stumble across.....
The August 12-15th works, but anything on August 21st is a TOTAL NO FLY for me.... 1st Anniversary and all..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I like the idea but it will be very 'uneven' for some of us. Where I live there are not many people who own much of value in Audio, so your usual finds are in Vinyl, and even there the pickings are slim. Yet there are others here, who regularly find vintage 'gems' at the dump or their local GW. Absolutely 'amazing' things!
What is it that that Realtors say, "Location, Location, Location". Some of us are just in the 'wrong' location?
It is 'really' amazing what some of 'you' find in the oddest places though.

Hi All; I will be the first to post a find. I have never really found much of anything ever in a thrift store. This is an integrated Onkyo A-10 amp. It did not work when I first brought it home but a little Deoxit on the switches and controls and it was up and running. It actually sounds pretty good and the build quality looks great. Really have no use for it though but for $12.00 I couldn't resist.

looks like a great find. If you have need for a garage rig, this looks like a great way to start. The Gear... I got off work late today and on the way home decided to drop by the Goodwill. No new albums so I started talking to this Southern Belle that I see there sometimes. We drifted on to the electronics shelves and as I was talking I looked over the VCRs
and didn't see much interesting.
There was one more black box on down so I took a look. I almost jerked my elbow out getting it off the shelf. Not often that you find a Dragon lying there smiling at you. The guy that priced it must have known it was special as he put the premium price on it.
Conversation with the Belle was slightly interrupted. Got to stay with your priorities.>

That "thingy and box" were made by Sansui a long time before you were born. Show some respect.>

I think a lot of the larger districts are selling the good stuff online to bidders. Our district does not do the online sales yet. Makes a big difference on what's available in the stores.>

Ours does and it sucks :frown:."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Wow. That's a really nice Onkyo above. Two separate transformers, very large filter caps, symmetrical heat sinks, etc. Very, very nice. And, again, no chance that I'll ever see anything like that.
The only usable thing I ever found at a GW was a Technics SU-V78 integrated and its matching tuner. $20 for both. A bit higher than the expert pickers would have paid. lol
Enjoy!
