This guy used to live in my area and had a show on NPR in DC, he's since gone to play and do a radio show in Nashville TN. I saw him play this piece on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Conowingo years ago.

I cut my music teeth on the likes of Charlie Daniels, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, The Marshall Tucker Band - so Im all about bluegrass, some fiddle action, along with a flat top guitar or a pair of Les Paul's for good measure.

I will admit that I only like certain Bluegrass music and only when in the right mood but..........that fiddle work is unparalleled by any philharmonic violin virtuoso anywhere-any time, excluding perhaps Y. Menuhin!:biggrin:

You basically can't mess with Vassar. For anyone looking for an easy intro to bluegrass, check out Will the Circle Be Unbroken by the Nitty Gritty Dirt band. They got all of the best pickers still around in the seventies and made a three lp masterpiece of that style of music. There have been many friends of mine that got more appreciation for bluegrass after hearing that album. It is just that now everyone thinks that O Brother stuff was bluegrass but most of it wasn't. Most new bluegrass is old-time music, which has the same instruments but none of the fire and intensity of the grass.

I like Vasser too but hes always backed up with a banjo. Its hard to tell how clean he is if you get the picking in with it.

I will be going to see The Charlie Daniels Band tonight he hits the stage at 8:00 pm tonight at the Fair, I can only hope he does his version like the one off the Fire on The Mountain LP, you never know seen ol Charlie more times than I can remember, and yes he has done it before on some of his shows I have seen. The Fair here had some decent shows last night was Steve Miller, that was pretty good but looking forward to the CDB Band tonight, ol Charlie never disapoints.
