SDA CRS+ from Santa Fe

Hello all,

There must be a nest of Polks somewhere just southwest of Santa Fe near La Cienaga. This is the third pair I have bought within a 5 mile radius. If only I could find the queen I'd be RICH!

These SDA CRS+ flunked the press test and were missing the pin/blade interconnect. I think I will try Armacell for gasket material this time. I need to make a temporary IC. I recall reading here that only the pin carries a signal. Is this correct? Can I just stick a bare wire (perhaps tinned with solder) into the pin sockets for testing purposes? Once I have completed testing I can decide on a repair and upgrade path.

I currently have my SDA-1Bs as shown here in post #55 http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85190&page=2. Except that there is 6'-0" between the speakers and the listening position is closer to the south wall. The dining room to the right adds 14'-0" to the width of the room.

I am thinking that the CRS+ might work better in this situation, since the room is only 13'-2" deep.

Any thoughts?

Regards,
Jim

As a temporary solution, your idea will work.

How do you do a press test with the grill on the back of the speaker covering the passive??

I removed the grill and refastened the PR. Pressing on the PR, the MWs return to center in less than 1 second.

Doesn't that mean the test succeeded? The faster the MW's return to position, the better the air seal. After I finished my armacell mod, there was zero delay - the MW's move in unison with pressing on the passive.

Only if I hold the PR pressed in, though, right? If I push the PR in, MW's should pop out. If I release the PR, the MW's should pop back in. I would expect a fully sealed cabinet should behave that way. If I push the PR in and hold it, and the MW's come right back in, then I would think there is an air leak.

I should have said "press and hold the PR in". The MWs push out, then pop right back in. I.e., they leak, badly.

wow, I never heard of this test. It obviously explains why sealing the drivers is important. Part of my next of many steps.
