    How about the Manley Skipjack?
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

    I sorta figured that .
I like the RS because its small thus conveniant for testing I figured since there is no major circuitry in it (just a few wires and switches it wont degrade the sound .
    Does adcom make one ?

I'd suggest looking for an Adcom SLC 505 passive preamp. It has a straight line out (bypasses volume pot), making it an excellent transparent switch box. I am hording one for that purpose. If I find I don't need it, I'll offer it up for sale at some point, but they do come up at Audiogon and eBay from time to time.

BTW, they are also extremely good passive preamps!

I would suggest the adcom slc-505 as well. I got one recently. I tried it out for a while and really liked. Unfortunately, I wanted a headphone jack on the preamp in my system so it went back in the closet. I have seen several recently on eBay and audiogon, for between $70 and $100 (they sometimes go for more).

go to jr.com and get the one niles make, it is very well built, just like their amp selector, which i own and can testify for the built quality.

I wanted an SLC-505 for a while as well. I think they generally sell for between $100 and $150, and seem to come up for sale a couple times a year. I paid towards the high end, as I didn't want to wait for another opportunity. A nice one sold on eBay this past June for about $180.

I've seen one or two for sale in the CP FM, as well. Post in the wanted section here and on Audiogon, I suspect you'll find one.

Don't hate RS, they just use very thin contacts in their switchers and when they get older they ware badley and can tend to cut in and out or ad noise. Take yours apart and look at it. The niles and the like are just made better. Thiers a RS switchers in my area for 5 bucks and still don't want it. In this case a little more money spent iS a good investment.

    I am just kidding :)
I very much think the quality of build in RS stuff is not as good by far as something like a adcom or a niles .
But regardless of what brand you choose if it has little use or new you will get much better sound , any switcher has the possibility of degrading the sound but in a a-b test there is now choice except just switching wires .
I also think a unit that has volume control can damage sound as it passes through .

The Adcom slc-505 has two sets of outputs: one that that can be volume controlled and one that bypasses the volume control (hence the straight line control name).
