Monitor 70 vs. Series II vs Tsi400

Hi everyone! This is my first post after reading a lot on this forum and am currently trying to figure out what speakers I need. I am a college student and primarily use my speakers for music at house parties and need a system that wont blow out. I listen to everything from classic rock to hip hop with the occasional movie thrown in. Going to be using a Yamaha RX-V371 receiever and buying refurb directly through polk. I need help finding out what the best bang for my buck will be on a set of speakers.

2. Tsi400 $380
3. Monitor 70 Series II $400

House parties, college, equates to loud volumes. Your better off with pa speakers that are more suited for such. A cheap receiver at loud volumes will give out enough distortion to say bye-bye to the Polks. Before we go there though, maybe we should define "loud" and how big of an area your trying to fill with sound,on average.

Given the power of your 371, personally I would go with Monitor 60's.....

But all the choices you listed are good ones and I doubt you would be second guessing yourself.

would it be better to put money into an upgraded receiver and instead save money on the speakers by getting the monitor 60s?

That receiver is rated at 80w/ch in 2 ch mode. It will drive the m70's but I'm not sure how good they will sound... If you plan to blast it using that receiver, I defniitely advise against m70's, not even sure of m60s.

But really, I would lean in the direction tonyb is stearing you. Polk speakers in general, are more focused around nice/clean/quality ht surround sound that are good at bringing out details in your sound source. With polk it's about finess, not volume and brute force of sound. You want something that bumps and is loud, you probably should consider a different brand. Cervin vega seems to be a popular college dorm workhorse. I'm sure there are others.

Cerwin Vega, BIC or PA speakers.

If you really want to party down Polk's may not be what you want. They can do it but if you get to crazy they will let you know about it too.

I have to jump in with every one else here. get cerwin vegas, loud and tough.

Being a college grad myself, i had built a loud system, involving the cerwin vega 12" towers, jbl center and rears. I drove it with a sony 1600es.

The system was good for smaller parties, once the kegs got in full swing it was hard to over power the crowd.

depending on your type of parties, if your going full kegger youll want a dj PA system.

just some peeps and some brews, get a home system of the vegas and a avr.

Being new to the forums and to polk myself, this line is geared toward the quality of sound over pure mass sound.
