Near record? No, it's a record today. Low of 82 degrees over night, 84 at 5 AM today. Temps expected to reach 102 degree. That heat index, 115-120 depending on where you are.

Even the wind is hot today.

Yup, absolutely brutal out today. I'm not an "air conditioner in the car" type of guy (I generally love me some fresh air) but even I had it blasting on the commute this morning.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

But true same here the wind is like opening the oven door and getting that blast of heat in your face....but constantly

Seriously, I went outside and felt like I was going to burst into flames. The frigging humidity is what really sucks.

I can handle hot, but not this kind of hot.

Some of you guys do have it worse than us in Texas. Heat index is only 105* today.

It's not that bad, just drink plenty of fluids.

My neighbor, he's big as a house, has tickets to the Phillies game tonight. Game time temps at 7pm are going to be around 98-99 degrees. That's nuts and I feel sorry for whomever has to sit next to him.

I figured the temperature increase in the NE was coming from all the hot air in DC!

They just paved the parking lot at the train station I go to for my ride in to work. Yesterday, a co-worker said he got back to his car at another freshly paved lot and temps on the pavement were 130 degrees.

Walking up 15th street, the Max Brenner place, "Chocolate By the Bald Man" had a busted fridge. Sucks to have that happen just before the weekend.

    I was sent this today.Appropriate i think.

    1.) It isn't 130 degrees EVERYDAY
2.) I didn’t have sand in my Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
3.) I can have water anytime I want it
    4.) I can take a cool shower
    5.) I have AIR CONDITIONING
    6.) I'm not 6,000 miles from home
7.) I'm not dressed in a full BDU Uniform and Helmet and carrying 80+ lbs.
8.) There is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today

Ouch. When I'm on the motorcycle, I'll get on it at 5, hasn't been rode since 7:30, and the damn temperature gauge is at 110*! Luckily, we have a concrete parking lot. Gravel parking lots tend to swallow kickstands when it gets this hot.

And people from up north wonder why southerners have remote start...to cool off that 140* car!

People don't understand until they get 2nd degree burns from their seat belt.

Lightman1 [Russ] and myself work outdoors repairing outdoor lights for Duke Power. The truck we drive is close to 20,000lbs and is a big heat source just by itself. I measured the temperature above the rear wheels when it was about 93 the other day. The temp gauge registered at 140 degrees and the very last thing we do after a repair is put away the wheel chocks.

When we are working on a high voltage pole, we have to wear HV rubber gloves and HV rubber sleeves that are quite thick and go all of the way up to your neck. Add a hard hat and working above the portable heat source we call a work truck, along with the heat and humidity and you can imagine that it can get quite hot. Especially when you are handling an 80lb light fixture and you have 10 or 15 more lights to go with a couple of span repairs or installs in between. It is not uncommon to take off our gloves or reach up and have water pouring out of the gloves like we had just filled each of them with a large cup of water.

THANK GOD our bosses have allowed us to start working at night. Otherwise, we would have a lot more workers visiting the hospital involuntarily. I heard on the news that the folks that collect garbage are doing the same thing. Smart move. I agree, I feel for anybody who has to work in this kind of heat. 22 deaths have been associated with this heat wave so far, according to the news last night.

Even though I may think it can be rough for me and all others that have to work outdoors, none of it even holds a candle to what the troops go through all day and all night. May God bless our troops.

I'm very upset about this issue, and how our government is handling it. I don't understand why we are risking troops overseas, when we have our own fights here. When is O'Bama going to do something about this heat? Mix that in with no action taken against tornados, floods, dust storms and earthquakes, I don't think we're doing anything to battle these issues.

    I'm very upset.

I have a black car w/black leather seats. The past 4 days it has been over 155* inside the car. I have a MOMO shift knob made out of carbon fibre and brushed aluminium and I can't touch it for more than a couple seconds w/o intense pain because it's so hot. Talk about quick shifts

Gotta love this Summer heat. Even when the temp is normal for Summer the car is HOT inside.

Almost, I swear it could happen!

I've even tried to cover the shift knob with a towel and it's not the direct sunlight, it's the temp inside the car that heats it up.

I for one hope we break the record streak here in Texas. We're not even in the hottest part of the year yet, so it's not going to cool down anytime soon. I say eff it, if it's gonna be that miserable outside, may as well go ahead and break some records while we're at it
