I was just cruising on my local C/L and to my surprise a couple of pairs of speakers came up and I would like to know from you guys how these stack up. The first set is a pair of ADVENTS not the babies but I could not get the exact model from the guy, he wanted $100 for the pair.If there'r the large ones and have no issues this would be a great deal.
The second set of which I know nothing at all about are a pair of model#RT400 so is this a good speaker in the Polk line, pricey, economy, middle of the road and he wanted $50 for the set.as I recall there were no issuses but that seems to good to be true but stranger things have happened. I got my InfinitysSM112s for $40 because the guy was moving to Europe the next day and when you are desperate wacky things can happen......LW

RT400 is middle low end in my opinion. Don't expect the bass output that the SM112's have but they are good sounding speakers especially for the price.

If the Advents are Large Advents in good working order that is a steal.

I wouldn't call that a steal as I've seen at least a dozen Large go for $100-150, and more often the lesser value. It's an average price to me.

RT400's, those don't pop up that often.....those that have them seem to love them.

Unless they were the walnut cabinets and they were MINT, I'd pass on the Advents at that price.

OK - I have to ask. Do you have any other speakers besides the Klipsch cubes we've seen before? The reason I ask is I think any of the speakers you have been mentioning will be leaps and bounds above what you've currently got. I understand that you're on a budget and I can respect that - I'm there myself. But there is no reason to keep looking at SDA's and other high end speakers (as you've stated in previous posts) when you want a $50 pair from C/L (not a bad thing, but know what's reasonable and what's fantasy land)

It feels to me like you are driving a Gremlin, but would be willing to turn down a Lamborghini because you don't like bulls.

Lefty, are you in NJ? I also saw a pair of RT-400 for $50, but never heard back from seller. I believe that Shack has/had a pair and liked them very much.

With patience it's really not hard to find decent speakers for $50-100. I personally prefer the Polk Monitors (5Jr, 5, 7, 10) which can sometimes be found in that range and are worth crossover and tweeter upgrades as money and time permit.
