I just recently got back into the HT game. I just bought a denon 3311CI to go along with a new LCD tv I just bought. Trying to build a decent HT system and also I like to listen to music as well. To let you know how old my speakers are....I have some vintage polk RTA 8T's. They still sound good and are in excellent shape for being about 22 years old. I just know technology has gotten better since 1988...lol. i have a budget of 500 dollars to upgrade the front towers. i saw on ebay that the polk store has some refurbished monitor 70 series II for 400 bucks, i can get a pair of RTi 10's for 500 bucks, or I found a smoking hot deal on a lightly used pair of RTi 12's which would cost me between 600 and 650 depending on how much gas i use to pick them up. With the denon avr i currently have, which speaker would sound best? i know that could be a loaded question. I have a feeling my avr does not have enough power to properly push the RTi 12's. I could entertain the thought of buying an amp to power the RTi 12's. It might be borderline for the monitor 70's and even the RTi 10's. I just dont know so that is why I joined this forum to ask for advice. i do like my RTA 8T's so I want to stick with polk speakers. I've heard the RTi A7's and they sound really really nice. I noticed the RTi 10's seem to be the same as the A7's, just cosmetically a little different. Thanks for your help/advice. hopefully you can sort through all my jibberish and give me some good sound advice.

rti12 is a better speaker than any monitor series one. i think that your denon will push them fine, but would probably sound better and more controlled with an external amp.

i think that rti speakers are very good for the money and you will be very happy with them using the with your avr.

later whenever budget you get then you add the external amp
