I didn't really know which section to post a topic like this in so mods feel free to move it to another if you feel one is more appropriate.
Has anyone on the forum purchased a CAN-AM cabinet recently...say within the past year or two?
I purchased a setup from CAN-AM about 8 years ago and totally love them. They aren't cheap but IMO are the best setup going. One of the reasons I went with the modular CAN-AM cabinetry was that they offered the ability to grow and expand infinitely and are also excellent home theater and audio furniture.
Well, after 8 years I finally decided to look at getting some more modules to expand and reconfigure my setup. The cabinets I currently have are the black textured ones. Back when I bought mine, they were painted and the steel was textured. Their slogan then was "The Look of Leather with The Strength of Steel". They are nice-looking and have held-up well. All-steel construction with fully-rollerized drawers the quality of a Snap-On toolbox. They are manufactured in Canada which is nice too.
Much to my surprise, I discovered that CAN-AM no longer produces these exact cabinets! There goes the "infinite expandability" I was after 8 years ago. Now the cabinets are powder-coated instead of painted. Not an issue and probably more durable but the real issue is that they no longer offer the textured steel. Only smooth!
So here I am with a few thousand dollars worth of the older style and am unable to purchase matching cabinets. The sales guy told me that they had problems with the steel manufacturer and no longer offer the textured models. He did claim that they offer a powder-coat that has a similar texture but not exact and some people are buying them and mixing them with the older units.
Has anyone on here seen the newer powder-coated CAN-AM cabinets?
If so, how do they look compared to the old-style that they made since the 1970s up to a couple years ago?
Thanks in advance.
