If you steal copper wire and tubing from an abandoned bldg., you're a loser.
If you steal an A/C condensor, releasing all that R22 into the atmoshphere, you're an even BIGGER loser.

But, if you try to steal copper wire from a LIVE ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION, congrat's, you've reached the top of the dumb-**** food chain!
When something with no moving parts, hums, and generates heat, that's a big frikkin hint to stay away!

Perhaps he's just trying to help the facility by isolating ground noise off it...

Heck, I'd go as far to say that even if it does have moving parts, it's probably best to give it a wide berth if it's large and humming and generating heat...

Here in Chicago, for years we've had problems with thieves, still do. They take off the access plate on the back of light poles and rip out the wires. Take manhole covers off of sewers, so your driving down the street and boom. When it comes to stealing something of worth, these guys can be very creative, wish they put that creativity into a job though. They have even ripped out wiring harnesses on construction machines. We even had to pay a gang leader once to ensure the safety of our equipment left overnight.

He wasn't trying to steal anything. It was just a fed up audiophile trying to chase his ground loop problems down to the source.

Unfortunately, natural selection has also imbued them with a special skill too: breed early, breed often.

That's gangster if I've ever heard of gangster!

When I worked in Chicago(Wheeling) we had to back up all of our trailers in a Tetris like grouping to make sure they couldn't get into them. After that they just cut holes in the top to get into them.
