Anybody else curious about a set of those for sale on craigslist with a fresh coat of paint in a room with seemingly no furniture and a big hole in the wall?

I bet they were a STEAL!

Wow, Maybe someone helped him get them in the garage and left before they could flip them upright? Or maybe the person is a tool and doesn't know any better? I am guessing it's number two.

    That's kinda funny!

But, unless my eyes are lying to me, it appears that the crossover plates might be mounted upside down. That could lead to a certain level of confusion I think.

The white color though, just different. I think it probably had more to do with a WAF and not wanting massive, black obelisks sticking out in her all-white living room. So change the fabric to white and you're golden!

Still though, it's clear the guy doesn't know what he has.

As long as everything is in working order and the crossovers have not been jacked with $850 is not that bad. If you could pull them for like $700 it would be worth the extra work..

    Larry,

I would take these as a 'warning' of what 'not' to do when you start work on your 3.1s?

No white grills or paint, or paisley patterns for that matter! lol

Hey, the original Monitor Series Model 9 was available in white (the "Rat" at Johns Hopkins had a white pair in the 1970s)... why shouldn't there be white SDAs, too? :-)

Argueably the worst Polk loudspeaker ever. Built using the leftover drivers from the BOSE 901 knockoff's Matt and the crew were making.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That said... the Model 9A, which swapped out the Motorola piezo for the Peerless KO10DT silk dome tweeter, was markedly better sounding. I (ahem) have a pair of the 9As and they're perfectly respectable sounding. Those little 4 inch CTS extended-range drivers are nice sounding little drivers.

Ha, ha. I'm listening to a set (of what will become 'garage' speakers) that have an Electric Motorola Piezo horn? From the time when KLH was dredging the bottom of the bin in audio parts in the mid-late '80s. Also a good 'test' speaker for the new/old Pioneer SX receiver (in case anything 'blows'?).

    OK for party speakers though.

The piezos can be made palatable by adding an appropriately designed crossover. Using the piezo's own electrical characteristics delivers a too-low crossover point which seems to be responsible for their "spittiness". (that's with a "p", not an "h")

I agree, my set also have the Peerless tweeters and they sound great to me also.

The 9A is also a surprisingly sensitive loudspeaker - mine sound dandy driven by a push-pull EL84 amp (ca. 12 watts per channel).
